Cambelt timing tools

I’m going to be doing my belt, pump etc soon and I’ve read quite a lot and watched some videos and seen a mix between people saying only use genuine tools and some saying it’s fine to use the knock off ones and wanted see what you guys thought, genuine are so expensive for something I’m going to use probably once and I don’t know anyone who has one and the knock are so much cheaper for what looks like does the same job, thoughts ?

Try and get genuine if you can. I managed to pick a complete used set up for not that much.

Buy a used genuine set. They hold their money so you can sell them on whenever you're done with them

Just out of interest what’s the reason for it obviously I know the genuine is 100% right but does anyone know if the laser ones are actually not right I don’t understand what the difference is?

Can appreciate this, it’s just I wanted to know if it’s the same with the laser tools or it’s just people being funny with it because it’s not a genuine tool, snap on make 100% right spanner’s but so do Halfords advanced for a quarter of the cost. That was my point and question

Aren't the laser tools known for not being fully accurate or bending? People end up with the timing out, which kind of defeats their point.

They'd definitely bend without the pulley locking tool 😅
