Titanium shims

Car  BMW 320d- 172 cup
Titanium brake pad shims, I'm looking to maybe get a set for my megane 3rs before an upcoming trackday.
Supposedly they help quite a bit with overall brake caliper/pad temperature by reducing heat soak back into the caliper. My other thinking is they would protect the seals from going brittle and failing soon after with excessive heat.
My pads, fluid, discs and lines are all good for track work, but thought these along with some ducting tie wrapped into the disc area would also help.

Car is a daily so the shims and ducting would be removed once home.

Anyone used them or know if they are as good as they say?

Any difference to pedal feel with the shims fitted? Also considered a set as have melted dust seals too.
 
What ones did you use, seen perforated ebc ones for under 50 quid, kam racing are nearly double for same item 🤷‍♂️
 
What size ducting is good, 3inch or so? I plan to tie wrap it under the splitter up to the disc area, again this will be fitted in the morning and removed before I head home, maybe not perfect but it should help a little
 
Mine came from some Eastern European company in the , Yperion or something like that. Were about 40 quid


Might struggle with 3" ducting in terms of available space

Have you boiled fluid previously?

I've not used them, but I'm sceptical, I'm my mind they're snake oil trinkets. the backing plate of pads doesn't get as hot as disc or friction material.

You could work out how much it would make a difference to heat transfer into the piston based off the thickness of the shim, it's thermal conductivity in w/mk and the contact area with the piston but as most brake heat is rejected into the air passing over the disc I doubt it's tangible, certainly wouldn't have as much effect as ducting
 
No I've never boiled the fluid, currently have rbf600, I never put ducting on the clio and the brakes were getting too hot and retaining heat, so this would be a must next time on both cars.
The main reason for me was to protect the calipers, as the clio seals are pretty much knackered although they were not long replaced due to the heat, so looking to prevent such things on the megane.

The shims are cheap so will throw a set on and see, both together should help overall hopefully.

They definitely stopped the seals on my calipers from getting cooked so they must do something

Ive burned the paint off the backing plates on pads a few times with track use. I think it depends on how hard/much heat you get into the brakes whether they are worth fitting.
 
I’ve been looking for some for my car as I’m currently near melting stuff on track. but design911 seem to want a fortune. That said, I priced up 1mm titanium sheet and can now see where they got the pricing from!!

Yeah its not cheap, two titanium bolts a guy showed me at work for a specific task, m20 x120mm or thereabouts, just under £600 quid he said 🫣😂, there kept in a locked drawer incase they go missing

When i made my Clio ones in 2017 it was £30 for an A4 size sheet of 0.8mm grade 5 Ti.
