I’m guessing this Peugeot/Citreon plug is not meant to be here. Can anyone correct me? 0 clue where it goes or what it does, seems to go over the gearbox and into the interior.

That's fine, the PH1 has that plug

I wouldn't have expected that plug to be factory in a Renault of this age.

Good to know about them clutches too. Im still undecided what to do, mainly as I haven't had an email back about cost for it. I can't imagine it being that much as it'll be done with no extra labour.

it seems to be developing some electrical issues this thing. What a surprise.

These are:
- Occasionally, when you press the key button it has a meltdown and sets its alarm off
- The radio has stopped working now
- You can turn every exterior light on with the key out of the ignition and sometimes roll only the drivers window down too with this.

The radio is so strange it worked 4 day ago, how can that break on its own? Then again, i said that about the gearbox and look what’s happened with that

Do we reckon there’s a drain on the battery as it died after being sat for 1/2 weeks without being started? I wouldn’t be surprised at all with this car

was the new battery, bought it when i got the car about 2 months back.

Been on charge once before this as it died when i was messing around with my stash of 90s CDs and Cassettes.

Aye. Never mind then.

You can take the battery out and charge it separately though as it comes with alligator clips.

The garage it’s in is horrible, can’t complain for free though. It’s got no waterproofing never mind electricity.

i’m going to look into a charger or just keep running the car every few days to keep it happy. It won’t be long till it’s off to Liverpool.

I can’t keep up, is this gonna be used as a daily? If not, when I relocated the battery in mine and used a smaller one, I fitted a cut off. It’s now been stood for about two years, haven’t touched the battery and it still starts up when I flick the isolator on

It will be used as a daily sadly, apprentice wage isn’t good enough for two Clios. I’m looking into rust proofing or some kind of protection against the UK. Anyone have some recommendations?

Might be worth doing that battery conversion when it eventually stops being my daily. I’ll end up having a unit or garage some day so it can live in there eventually. That’s if i don’t sell it.

It’ll definitely have something put on it in the next few months and possibly some spare wheels with winter tyres on. I really don’t like the idea of winter driving it but there’s not much i can do.

My plan is to regularly wash underneath it too during the winter to try and minimise rust

where’s the fun in repairs on this car? it creates new problems on its own this thing.

Tbf i don’t need to worry about rust, it’s not going to see the road for another 8 months at this rate.

update on the radio sides of the electrical issues. It did fix itself till i turned the engine on and it went off. How? i have 0 idea.

Since then, it’s decided to stop working completely despite unplugging it multiple times and now the CD changer keeps going through every CD. Got to love 90s electrics

Do you have a multi meter? Probably going to need one!

Might be a bad earth somewhere. It's normally a bad earth somewhere!

I feel for the amount of problems you're having dude. My cars been sat for 14 years and it somehow seems to have less problems thank you!

definitely worth investing in a multi meter, i don’t have one at the moment.

Possibly the earth strap on the gearbox? i may be wrong but i did remove it

all i seem to be getting is the CODE screen. tried the code it does nothing. Unplugged it multiple times and had the battery off for 10 mins. Nothing

I don’t understand how so many things have gone wrong on it. I thought it only needed a belt and maybe some little jobs, how wrong was i.

I’ve ripped a wire out of the plug on accident but it’s still got power going in it as it shows the CODE screen. I’ll get my dad on it as i hate dealing with wires.

It went into that one on the left, two wires into one pin it seems. Anyone know what that pin does?

Most of the things i’ve done was trying to fix something else.

That black plug is ordered:
8 6 4 2
7 5 3 1

Pin 8 is the black earth, if that helps you visualise it.

In terms of what they all do:
1 - vehicle speed signal (I've never seen this have two wires, so that's worth investigating if you think your broken wire was in there).
2 - blank (not used)
3 - mute
4 - power (battery supply - red wire - pretty standard colouring for clio's)
5 - aerial signal
6 - lights
7 - accessories power (yellow wire - pretty standard colouring for clio's)
8 - earth

that blue wire i’ve pulled out went into the number 1 plug. i’ve found a photo that shows it from when i first got the radio.

i had another look this morning and i think this plug is different to the layout above. Have a look for yourselves.

I may be wrong, but i think where there should be pins there isn’t. More blanks then on the layout it should be. Am i right?

The radio itself is still displaying the Code screen constantly. I vaguely remember it doing this last time when something was plugged in wrong. Everything behind the head unit is plugged in right, possibly that wire that’s causing it?

Apparently it’s normal for it to be there so it’ll be going straight back in. Had a look at another ph1 and it’s normal for two wires to be in there. I was under the impression it wasn’t right due to the info i found.

I didn’t know they were that cheap to be honest. Not something i’ve looked at before, ill get one ordered definitely going to need it in the future.

I fitted my Janspeed Stealth exhaust i’ve had for awhile to it today and it actually went pretty well. A first for this car i think. Makes a much better noise then it did before but it does scrape on the ramp going into the garage so i need to look into that tomorrow.

However, the horns stopped working now. I haven’t touched it at all and it’s broke. Another thing to look into tomorrow. 0 clue what’s caused that, like usual.

i’ve fixed it hanging low now. It just needed some more movement and as i’m an idiot i forgot to tighten the middle hanger up so it’s perfect now. The backbox is a tad wonky but it’s not terrible, i’d put some photos on but they don’t work for some reason

All it needs now is a working horn and gearbox.
