First Car Project - Clio 172 PH1

I mean this with the utmost of respect but when I had my first project, I was loving those little niggles and faults as it meant I got to get stuck in changing bits and learning along the way.

You just come across as a proper whingebag with every post. Woe is me wahh wahh wahh. You've got a 25 year old French car, that's been stood around for what 6 years. Get on with it or sell it to someone who wants a fun little challenge.

I'd buy this off you tomorrow if it stopped you whining. Genuinely my offer is there.
Are you ok, hun?

The temp gauge looks fine mate

They're usually a bit weird, mine never sits in the middle, it always sits just a touch above the middle
Mines always about half a bar below centre. Best way to check if it's properly up to temp is see where the redline is 🧐

This is probably completely unrelated to my oil consumption issues 😇

I’ve had a look into the coolant gauge and it seems to change depending on what i have the headlights set too? Sounds stupid i know.

It doesn’t overheat, it just tells me it is on the gauges depending on what lights are on. It’s like the lights raise the ‘normal’ place for the gauge to sit so when it climbs it looks like it’s overheating but the fan kicks in and brings it back down to the level the lights have made it sit at.

Can anyone explain this?

Edit- that video is a bit crap but it shows what i mean a bit.

Apart from that, the EML and the shock it’s pretty much ready to see the road. Hopefully it’s pretty soon as i’ve had a taste of how much fun this is to drive. Especially compared to the Ford Ka+ i use for my lessons. Older cars are definitely what i want more of in the future.

The lights making the gauges go up is pretty normal in the older renaults. Not sure of the fix, probably voltage regulator related if it has one.

The temp gauge is inaccurate being honest, log obd/live to check

Said it before and I’ll say it again…given the age of the car, the fact it’s been standing, you’ve had the gearbox off and the number of electrical gremlins. I’d be cleaning every ground on the car and for the tiny cost replacing the one from the gearbox to body (NSF wheel arch) even if it looks intact I’ll bet it’s s**t.

Thanks for the advice, i’m going to check and properly clean everything and change that strap while i’m doing the coilovers.

I forgot to mention that the clock screen has gone quite dim as well as the Sony head unit. Another grounding related issue?
