Petrol question and difference between cup and normal 172

  looking for clio
Hi,

Could anyone please let me know how much miles they get on their clio 172 on a £10 or £20 worth of fuel. I am looking to buy a 02 plate 172 with 50K miles on it and want to know from anyone with this kind of age and millage car what it gives in terms of miles per £10 or £20 and what kind of driving style theu have E.G normal 30MPH or flooring it all the time.

Also which is better and what are the differences between the 172 16Valave and the 172 Cup?

And what does CC stand for. cos i've seen some for sale which say clio 172 cup (CC)

Cheers.

well for petrol, ide say 10 pound will get you 100 miles ish, etc etc, the difference between a cup and a ff is the cup is faster due to it been stripped of things such as abc leatherxenons to save weight. im sure this thread will start some arguments as it always does. this has been posted loads on recently have a searc and you will find the differences. there is a 182 cup in inferno for sale at the minute 6.5k. im bias tho as i have one

Official combined MPG figure is 35, which would mean around 85 miles per £10.

Official urban MPG figure is 25, which would me around 60 miles per £10.

Assuming petrol is 90p.

I have a 182 cup and get an average 34/36mpg thats with all sorts of driving, short trips to work 4mls each way then lots of fast motorway driving so not bad I think

A 172 Cup is likely to be slightly better than a normal 172 as it's got 89kgs less to lug around.

I regularly get 350 miles from a full tank...which is approx. £43.00 to refill.

That works out at just over 80 miles per £10.00.

I do a mix of dual-carriageway, country roads and urban stop/start.

So judging from the responses i will be getting around 50-60 miles to £10 as i will be doing urban driving mostly - stoping and starting - short journeys. Nice 182 inferno up there. hope i had 6.5KL to spend i'd buy it straight away. Sadly only have 5.5k max for a minter.

Cheers guys, you've been of great help.

If I only managed 50-60 miles to £10 of fuel I'd check to see if my petrol tank had a hole in it!

£10 will do me over 100 miles easy.

sorry mate i find it hard to belive a 2.0 car with 172 bhp can achive 100miles with £10. I had a clio 1.2 expression on a 51 Plate 1year ago and that gave me 65 or 70 if i was lukey to £10. It did have a sports exhaust and induction kit aswell. I thought i'd be getting about 40 to £10 on a 172.

I would say 100 miles is a bit tight, although i can get 85 easily, over the past 90 gallons of fuel i have done an average of 37.7mpg! That is caining down country roads and about 10% cruising at 50 down A roads!

I had a 1.2 fiesta before and was averaging about the same mpg as the 172, this was cause i was ringing the neck out of it all the time!

  Turbos.
100 miles is possible, i've got 350 miles with one increment plus reserve to go out of my 172, so a Cup should be able to beat that!

i knew it!!

when i had my 52 plate 172 i would honestly get 100 miles out of a tenner- i knew i wasnt dreaming this, cos when i traded it in for my now mini one the dealer just laughed when i said i would get 100 out of a tenner, he said its impossible! i dont kane my cars either and thats what i would get, now on my mini one i get 100 out of £15 and it annoys me so much cos all ive done is chip it and its only a 1.6 i hate the fuel consumption on it, i will get 70 miles out of a tenner on a 1.6? its a crazy world we live in i tells ya!

Well next time you're on the red I dare you to put a tenner in for a 100mile trip ;)

What size tank do the 1*2s have?

Edit: I discovered they are 50litres :)

serious my car get 100 miles to 10 pound I do all motorway miles, dont really cane it. it does this, my mate has a clio 1.2 and i get similar mileages to him, we both live 23 miles from work and they are both about the same. i was so impressed with my 172 mileages, i got a corsa sri 1.8 and had to sell it in 2 months, bought my cup straight away. they are so good on fuel

i dont get it? how can a 2.0 be so good on fuel? would milage have anything to do with it? cos mine only had 30k on the clock?

When I went to France I managed a healthy 45 mpg at about 80mph...if I was to go to 90 tho it would drop off as it is coming on cam about then

my cup, i put about £38 to fill my tank, and its lasting me average of 280miles, thats down to the warning light, its done 70k miles and i drive at least over 100 mph most days, average about 85mph on special wide roads ;) and i allways zoom around.

tried driving slowly and didn't see much difference in fuel usage, waste of time that way anyways its not how it should be driven

Same here... I also dont find a huge difference when driving slowly, probably because a lot of its around town.

Like you, I just drive how its intended to be driven and get about 28-29 MPG on the computer.
