unless this get sorted! its the 2nd time the same thing has happened !
i jet wash the car and the orange light on the dash comes up ( the zig zag one in the middle) and the car dies if you put to much gas on, and goes really slow!! the last time the garage charged me £30 coz water damage isnt in the warranty! well i dont give a s**t! the car is not fit for purpose if i cant wash it twice...............
can anyone help with what might be happening>??:dapprove:

Stop pointing the jet gun directly in the engine. Angle it as to avoid that. I have mates that own Car Wash places, they get a nowty customer they direct the jet gun directly into the engine for a little while. Few minutes later the customer's going nowhere.

Check your drainiage channels are not blocked, hose the car with the bonnet open and check inside the windscreen pillars for leaks etc.

the electronic fault can be reset by simply turning the engine off and straight back on again.

tends to be linked to the ecu control for vvt.

mine completely cleared itself at 60k all by itself.

thanks lads, but why is the acceleration affected? is it a auto safty thing?
Im really pi**ed off.... was looking forward to the meet in exeter tommorow...................

alleleration is effected as the ecu changes the fuel air mix according to what the sensors are telling it at the time / what was last stored in its internal memory.

mate... i drive my car like i stole it. i had this light come on sometimes at 30mph sometimes at 110mph.

if it done it when i was driving... i would straighten up... turn ignition off... and back on again. cleared!

it's a get home safe mode. was like this for about 1000miles, and cleared as soon as my clock went to 60k.

there is series of dashes shown half way through. i can't remember what they mean, but if there is just a ----- shown then you have no problems. each dash indicates a potential problem, and is represented by a letter, so will show ----h-- or --r---- etc.
there was a post on here a long time ago that shows that each letter means.

Same thing has happened to me where the car goes into limp mode- normally as im flooring it up a slip road and ive just switched off and back on again. I was told it could be a sensor issue.

But as fred says its nothing to do with water because ive used never had a problem when washing mine&ive taken it through car wash and usewd a pressure washer on it.

was directly related to my second llamda sensor that i plugged straight into my de-cat instead of blanking it off. when my immisions light went back out, it ran fine again. like i said, when i hit 60k all my warning lights went off and drove like a new car.

I dont belieive it... turned the car on after a heavy night of rain and the revs just keep rising to 5000 rpm on there own. this is just not happening to me. the engine fault light and elec fault light is on....

Hi ClioBritt

My 03 plate 172 had a similar issue, it would go into "limp mode" without warning and the warning light would come on. I guess living in Plymouth you use Mumfords to get work done - be careful!!! Mine went back 3 times, each time I told them the symptoms and they would fix something totally random instead! Anyway, in the end it was the thottle potentiometer (spelling?), only sorted 'cos the non-YTS boy was probably on duty that day. I also had to get Renault UK involved, which helped 'cos they phoned Mumfords directly to ask what was going on.

Good Luck!
