Had Cambelt Change, feels much healthier

  Ultra 197 ex 172 Cup
Just had my Cambelt and Aux belt changed by National Vehicle Service, in Ascot, they came to my house, and changed it all in about 3.5 hrs, excellent service, and friendly mechanic. Totalled just short of £400.
Now I can thrash around again, once i fix my loose exhaust.

Recommend them to people living in berkshire :star: :star: :star: :star:

  Flame Red 172!
Arrrrrrgggggggh!!!! Still waiting for mine, haven't driven the car for 5 days!...although i'm pretty lucky, getting mine done along with the Aux Belt, full service, 2 x new rear shocks and MOT by a sh*t-hot mechanic for a touch under £400...Only proviso was that I let him have it for a week! :(

Did it really make a difference to the feel of the car (health wise) or do you reckon it's just the peace of mind factor?

JUST WANT TO DRIVE DAMMIT!!!!!

mine was just upto 71500 miles, :)

The car seems to tick over a bit higher, don't know if it was the cold, but when i started it after the guy had gone, when i was goign to go to the dentist, it was ticking over at 2k revs, then is slowed down to about 1200, after dentist it was almost back to normal at about 1k, normally is just about 0.8k revs.

Maybe its piece of mind, but it felt better to me. plus the aux belt is fatter that the old one (width wise) so thats a bit more piece of mind, as the old one wasn't covering the whole of the pulleys, but this one is. he had air jacks to jack the car up, and stuff :)

The AUX belt should be fixed on the Cups so that the belt sits over the PAS pump I think. There only 5 spaces on the PAS pump (or whatever the item is) and the belt has 1 extra tooth as such.

Yep needs to be done.
Aux belt has to come off to do the cambelt so should be replaced anyway.

driven 150miles today, and its still going good :) so hopefully my thrash down the M4 started to wear the belts in :)

Renault reckon 5yrs or 60k for the cambelt on my 1.2 16v, so I rang up the local Renault dealer and they wanted £390 to do it. (my car is now 5yrs old and 50k). Took it to a specialist and £200 later it was done, I asked for the old belt back and it looked ok but you never know, also had the waterpump done as well for an extra £100, it was showing signs of leaking and while the cambelt was being changed access was alot easier.

i was told that non- sports cambelts are much cheaper to change and quicker. is that correct?

  Mondeo TDCI 130
you should really be able to do it in 3.5 hours no problem! I have just done one today on a 1.4 16valve, £80 for the kit and i charged £100 to do it! boook time is 3.9 hours, done in 3!

Renault say 5years or 72k. Its recomended by many to be done at 60k.

Yep the engine bays have more space.
