182 brake discs

  gen 7 celica
hey guys just got my 182 and i think it needs new discs. they look like crap and i'm sure the discs on my old 1.2 were stopping me better. Anyone got suggestions for new brakes and what sort of price range i will be looking at including fitting. Will putting non renault discs on affect my insurance? cheers guys

I just bought some Brembo max discs off egay for £76. There supposed to be really good.

Just need some rears and some pads and then I am off to get them fitted. :)

Bleed the brakes fluid is IMo more important on the 182 they have problem with brake cooling due to the wheel design.

Stock disks or Brembo stuff plus normal pads (£45) are fine for most people.

OK gonna go for the Brembo High Carbon HC 280mm Discs for the front. What about the back. They the same size? sorry about the ignorance had a 1.2 before so used to the good old drums :)

238mm at the rear.

Stock are fine at the back and expensive as they have pressed in bearings so don't chnage unless you need to.

Am sure the fronts and backs all need done. They feel really worn to the touch and take ages to slow me down. Quite dangerous actually i dont trust them at all. So who does the best deal on the whole set?

The front discs and pads need doing on mine and since I am getting some goodridge hoses off the groupbuy and the rears have been on since new is it worth swapping these as well there about 50% worn according to Reno.

Just thinking its better to get it all sorted at once then muck around with it at a later date. The only thing is the handbrake and everything is fine. So unsure to be honest.

What would people advise. The fronts are definately getting done either way.

and what fluid is recommended? DOT 4 or 5.1?

Yozzasport are about the cheapest. Plus there rear disk come with th new bearing pushed in which is handy.

Bleeding the brakes is the biggest difference.

I'd stay with stock its fine for most people plus cheaper.

Dot 4 is fine Castrolsuper dot 4 resoponse is very good for the money and what I use without problems.

will agree with edde about bleeding the brakes. am just about to change my front pads and discs when i get my car back and going for ferrodo ds2500's with probably high carbon brembo discs / brembo max and then some braided lines with the castrol fluid. as it did the job nicely in the last car.

edde you'll be getting a call when it all turns up with my gearbox fluid and my coilovers. you know i love u really ;)

I'm suprised I'm not getting a call over brakes as well.

No problem though.

edde... a guide to bleeding the brakes all round on an RS would be ace! ;)
Same as the non RS. Been meaning to do mine for some time. I'll try d it before the new year.

If i buy the discs and pads all round how easy would it be for me to fit them? I have never done brakes before but am pretty good when it comes to mechanical stuff

Easy to fit 1 hour or so's work.

There a guide on the forum on the guides section.

was going to get my local place to do them with my lines, but you did a good job last time so i'd rather have you do it.

better be a bit quicker than 5hrs though ;)

4.9? OK

An hour and a half to do pads at worst if there none Renault ones (ie they don't fit).

Lines say an extra 20 minutes then half and hour to bleed.

Nice one fubar. Will give it a shot this weekend. Guessing its a similar story for the front. My girlfriends brother is an apprentice at renault so might get him to help, then he can train every1 at renault to to it properly ;)
