Fitting a volt meter

I wouldn't mind fitting one of these to my mk2 172ff and hide it in the glovebox out of sight.

Where can i take my feed from ?

Any ideas guys ?

Would the glovebox light be ok ?

Or am i better somewhere else ?

Cheers :clown:

Excuse me if this sounds like a silly question, but why do you want to do this?

you could take a feed from anywhere.

you could ground against any METAL on the chassis and take a positive feed from anywhere e.g. +12V input to headunit would be fine.

I am not sure a voltmeter is worth the space on the dash. I have one as standard on my 911 and quite honestly it’s a waste of space for what it tells me.

An AMP or “ammeter” would be more useful as that shows the rate of charge / discharge to / from the battery and from this you can tell if the battery is being charged and more importantly, holding its charge.
They are more complicated to fit, as they need to be in-line with the dc output from the alternator. Having said that, there are digital versions that have a remote sensor unit fitted to the alternator output and a separate display for the dash.

I think you were also asking about an oil pressure gauge.

There are 2 types. The capillary type has a copper tube connected to the instrument and normally “T’d” off the oil filter housing where the standard low pressure switch is fixed.

The second type is electrical where the sensor goes as above and is connected to the instrument by a single wire. This type is easier to fit.

This is the sort of thing, not a recommendation, just to explain what I mean

Cheers bud ;)

Don't suppose anyone knows what the size of the thread to the low press sender on oil filter housing is ?

Example 1/4" Npt etc etc etc

So i can order a t piece

And what the low pressure switch looks like ?

So i know what i'm looking for....

Is the oil temperature tee'd into this as well ? ? ? :S

to fit an oil pressure or temp gauge on a 172 you'll need to buy a sandwich plate to go between the block and filter or the way i have done it is by fitting a valver combined sender into where the oil level sender is on the 172

Any pics ???

i'm interested in this also, this valver oil level sender what does it have outputs for? temp and pressure?
compatible with aftermarket gauges?

  BMW M135i
I've thought about the valver/williams temp/level sender but i'm unsure if the level side of things will be calibrated right?

  LY 182
cant see why not as the sumps the same capacity being f series block no? + to be honest i've never really looked at the level on the dash i just check it manually
i'd order one tommorow but i dont want to buy that and the gauges to find they arent compatible with the aftermarket guages

and theres the fact i'd need to know what pins on the sensor do what

Thats also what put me off, not knowing if/how the reading from the valver sender was the same as the range needed by an aftermarket gauge.

The F7P/R sumps are completely different to F4R as well afaik, the drain plug is at the back for a start but i'm not sure on the capacity differences between the two.
