K-Tec Stealth Exhaust Positioning

  182
Yo doods,

Just bought a new Ktec Stealth exhaust which has been fitted by a garage. Now, it fits perfect, no blowing, banging, clanging, bumping or humping

BUT - About two inches of the back box can be seen hanging down from behind the rear bumper... which defeats the object of it being "stealth"...

Is this normal? Theres a good few inches clearance from the top of the back box to the heatsheild, and the hanger is in the centre of the rubber mount, it hasnt sagged at all.

I just want to make sure I havent got a duff product or that the garage have messed me about.

Cheers! :star:

My mk2 stealth was sagging a bit too, crawl under the car and loosen the U clamp, put you jack under the backbox and jack it right up, then re-tighten the U clamp. Jobs a good-un.

Awesome. Thankyou muchly! Im presuming the U-clamp is the thing around the back box with the hanger welded to it?

I'm going to position mine in the bin, it knocks, bangs and blows. It's the worst piece of engineering I have ever seen!

^ think that was the old one.

its also worth looking at the rear exhaust hanger,(the metal square wth a rubber x shape) they are prone to collapse. A new unit is around £15

you can see mine if you look from a distance...But mines different from your ph2 stealth

Whenever you fix one side it will move the other and create another problem! I have done it myself, got a mobile mechanic to have a go, then a mate who runs a BMW tuning company and finally Renault.

I have fixed the blowing at the CAT but there is still a very slighy leak near the backbox.

I hate it when you can see stealths, my compromise is that it will bang on the heatshield now, although that is party stopped by copious amounts of cable ties!

Hmmm... I might just leave it then, you can only see an inch or two and theres only really an inch to go till it hits the heat sheild...

It's not blowing or rattling so I think I'll leave it. It must just be the sheer depth of the back box...

On another note, the welds on this one compared to pics of the welds of the old one that I've seen, they are a different league altogether. It's all a lot neater, with enough material joined to make the welds decent. But thats only from looks, so five moths down the line when I complain that its fallen apart, dont flame me!

mines falling to bits now, can hear it rattling about inside at certain revs etc. I will wait till it really starts to annoy me then claim the lifetime warranty on it. Basically because its more bloody hassle than its worth and cost to get the old one off and pay for it to be fitted again!!!

Got mine fitted okay....took some doing including buying a new rear exhaust mount and filing out some of the holes so I could position it further forward to stop it banging.

Still got a very small leak from the rear joint but TBH cannot be bothered to sort it out...sounds good and doesn't seem to be loosing any performance/economy.

How much does it hang down past the rear bumper?
