172 cup/type r/impreza turbo

  Evo 8 MRFQ320
looking for a new car and i just cant decide which one to choose any opinions on which to buy from experience etc cheers carl....

your better driving them.. an impreza will probably cost a bit more to run.. but would probably be worth it

172 Cup - Pikeys who cant afford leather

Type R - Crap, slow, used to deliver Hovis.

Impresza - Driven by chavs.

In answer to your original question.

You are comparing 3 very different cars. The first thing is money, the Cup will be considerably cheaper to buy than the others. I would have thought the Scooby is most "juicy"...

It depends on what you have to spend, I would go for the Cup if you want some fun without spending too much. If you have more to spend I would definitely go for the Scooby over the CTR.

  Not got a car
I know its not an impreza but its still a 2.0l turbo but i sold my astra coupe turbo running at 243bhp for a clio 172 and i personaly think i made the right Decision, Turbo cars are fuel drinkers and you need a deep pocket.
172's are nippy with low cost.

CTR's are just s**t, End of.

Just my Opinion thou.

I own a cup at the moment and have been looking into getting an impreza P1\Type-r but to be honest ive been reading lots about running costs and engine rebuilds and i may end up staying with the cup... cant beat it for cheap performance!

type R over the cup. end of.

Impreza over both, but running cost insurance are massively different.

Agree on the Impreza....most expensive part being the petrol, they really are thirsty.

Servicing/mechanically though they aren't that bad for a performance car/...plenty of part suppliers and specialists around now.

I miss my Impreza now and again ...still love driving the Clio though:)

Most people on a "clio" forum will tell you the cup is the best choice. But again it depends on budget, i always used to say the clio owns the ctr but never been a fan of scoobys much i prefer Evo. But hmm now if i were to buy a clio sport or ctr it would be a very hard choice the only reason being is after a couple of my mates have modded there ctr's and wow....a good mate Matt is running 234bhp with full Toda Race Manifold, Toda B Pipe, Toda Exhaust and Gruppe M Induction Kit and that was on the Rollers now he has got some Tein Flex Coilovers with EDFC Controller....wait to get that put on and it will be amazing. So if your budget can allow id get a ctr and put some toys on it, they really do fly and even beat the scooby boys!!

I'd have said Cup or CTR before yesterday on the running costs alone and negligable performance difference... however after being out most of the afternoon with my mates Scooby we came accross a CTR and we were toying with it in a major way... to the point it was just an utter piss take. The Scooby isn't running much in the way of mods, has Apexi filter, pro drive exhaust and Apexi bleed valve/re-circ thingy and I think it has a pro drive ECU... these mods he did himself to the cost of less than a grand and if a standard Cup/CTR and UK scoob are similar in performance as standard it just shows how easy power is to extract, the difference over the CTR was huge.

Lets not dick around, Impreza all the way.

I love my clio, but there's no comparison...;)

I'd drive one before you come to that conclusion, they don't handle spectacularly like you are led to believe, too grippy and understeery, great in the wet though.

LOL, there's a balanced arguement for you.

If you're getting a scooby it has to be a quick one, the 03 plate WRX I test drove a while back was rubbish, truly boring. Quick enough, but too soft and too mundane, not thrilling like a Cup or CTR can be.

I've had both a Cup and currently own a CTR, and it's a tough choice between the two, but dare I say the CTR is a nicer place to sit and driver every morning.

There's lots of +/- for both Cup and CTR, but I can't be bothered to go into that much detail.

At the end of it though, test drive them all, buy the one that excites you most :)

End of? Why spend double the money for no more performance? If you like a fancy interior buy yourself a new sofa at home :)

Great but spend that kind of money on your Impreza/evo and type R man won't be close....seen supercharged Type Rs with over 300bhp.....but with less than 200ft/lb.

Back to the old standard/modified argument

Having driven most of the very fastest Impreza's (bar the 22b) and as i own a Cup, i'd have to point you in the direction of the Impreza for pure speed and its horizon headbutting capability.
The Cup is fun but not on a par speed wise.
All depends what your budget is and if you can afford to run the Scooby....they can be pretty thirsty.

I've not mentioned the CTR basically because i have no experience of them...but i don't like them regardless.

Big laughs at the "pikey" comment regarding the Cup and its lack of fake cow hide.
Yeah i very nearly blinked it was that funny....:coffee:

  Mountune Tractor
I own a standard 172 but I'm sure as hell that if I had the money to buy a scooby and the money to keep it on the road each month, then that is what I would drive. A scooby pulls in 5th doing 120mph at the same rate a clio 172 cup does in 3rd gear at 50mph! lol. Having said all that........I love my clio to bits and it's great fun around the twisties.:rasp:

  cup 182 mit stripes
I had my brother in laws Impreza sport hatch thing one weekend when he was on the piss and needed a chauffeur. It's got the Pro-drive upgrade which is supposed to be 260bhp.
I'm sure it's faster than my Cup, but does'nt really feel it. A great engine yes. but the car weighs 40% more than the Clio, looks cack, and costs 20k.

just gona drive them all and see which one is the most fun to drive. i dont really need it to get to work its just for fun.

Mate, I used to work for Subaru and wouldn't recommend buying one.

WRX - underpowered for a car of its size, like someone said earlier, they are anything but quick

STi - Rear shockers last about 3 months, Rear Diffs whine their tits off and the Variable Centre Diffs are prone to whining aswell.

P1 - awesome cars but anywhere near 60,000 miles and your looking towards and engine rebuild

And iv only drove one CTR but i didnt see what all the fuss was about, nothing out of the ordinary.

Just my honest thoughts on the matter

My mate bought a scoob (import WRX) comming from a cammed vts saxo, sold it with two months of it being on the road. Said it was boring to drive, and not as chuckable. Straight line speed aint everything, and a cup will be pretty even with all uk 208-218 bhp imprezas......
