1.2 16v engine work

  LY 182
right, my 1.2 16v is getting ready for its cambelt change soon and the other night i had it up on the ramp and ive noticed the head gasket is leaking oil (i know they all do but it seems a bit much).
out of curiosity really and because i have the facilitys to do so im wondering what i can get out of the thing if i were to skim the head as far as poss whilst its off to bump the compression up and let my engine builder mate at it with his diegrinder for a bit of portwork.
reckon i'll see any gains or shall i just leave the fooker leaking

really not worth the effort, you can spend 1000's and barely get over 100 bhp out of one. If you want a better drive concentrate on things like a good airfilter, sportscat and exhaust

no you've missed the point, all it will cost me is a headgasket set and cambelt kit, all work will be done by myself and machine work will be done by a freind. was planning on doing cambelt and poss headgasket so i figured while it was off and because i have the facilitys to do so would it be worth a punt

again though, dont know whether its really worth the effort even without the cost. If you've got some spare time on your hands and like dabbling around in engine bays, it'd be interesting to see what happens, but otherwise wouldnt bother. Best having a word with edde he'll tell you the ins and outs

probably alot of work to see not alot of gains,
middo spent alot on his 1.2 to get the most out of it so id listen to what he says

yep spent the best part of a grand and it made 85 bhp on the rollers. so make of that what you will ;)

viper with custom stainless feed with samco elbow, sports cat and custom made stealth exhaust. sounded mint but still went like a tortoise lol. considered cams/remap but really aint worth it, especially whe you can pick up a ph1 172 for 3.5 grand now

ive got a lightned and ballanced bottom end for mine and a reprofiled cam from my spare engine, just never got the time to fit it n give it a go.

i knew it would make hardly any difference but i was bored/curious and had a spare engine and its cost me nothing really lol.
