Nice one Bmh, you can move that loom out the way if you need to (one between the cambelt and the chassis, theres a 10mm bolt holding it on the front, in pic 4 ish.

Where did you buy your timing tools from? Cheap?

Loom is already unbolted, i've just stuck it there for the time being so I can shut the bonnet. Thats enough for me until some beer and tomorrow morning.

Going to have fun changing the idlers and tensioners I can see it!, any tips or pointers on that front? because it looks to be a right bollock ache due to how tight the engine is against the side of the chassis.

Got the locking tools off ebay for 40 notes, was the cheapest I could find them without trauling round the internet. Mind you Cambelt Kit, Aux Belt Kit and the two core plugs came to £160! Definetly Renault then lol .

Piece of piss mate that engine is, when your putting it back together, put the tensioner on first, obviously don't tension it yet. Start the nut and do it so its just about to touch the tensioner, then get your belt all routed round and that. Do the idler after you've got your belt on, its got a rounded end on it, so you can start it a bit easier, push the actual jockey wheel back with your finger, whilst starting to do the T50 up by hand, it should go all the way in by hand if you push the wheel back enough. Basically the belt holds the wheel tight, and makes the T50 feel like its cross threaded, just hold the wheel back.

You'll need a 6mm allen key aswell mate for the tensioner, and a little mirror on a stick saves hassle.

well there is a special tool to do the guides, but at home i make do with a torx bit and put a spanner over it, then get someone to apply pressure with a lever bar so it doesnt slip!

Righto, will give that a shot. Just about to go out to it and crack on.

Lost me there?

Nice work, I love to see people having a go themselves. Are you a trained mechanic or self learnt/DIY mechanic??

Just stopped for lunch, new belt and tensioners are on just got to put the new aux tensioner and idler one and then I can wrestle with the beautiful item that it the lower timing belt cover. Severly inaccessible bolts, oh joy .

Should be operational soon then I hope, just a matter of putting things back on now.

Self learn/DIY pretty much have been playing with cars with my dad since I was about 6 or so and i've picked everything up from there. I'm an electrician by trade so there isn't much I won't do really.

Just finished, what a pain that was. Wouldn't fancy doing that twice tbh, oh well all done now and she rides again  :D.

Had fun getting the plastic cover and the metal mount onto the block?
Oh yes a right hoot, I take you this is talking from experience? :)

SO... How much did it cost in tools and parts?

Total for tools and required tackle was £200 notes. £40 for the locking tools and £160 for cambelt kit, aux belt kit, and two core plugs.

Another brilliant french idea, of course they're easy to get on while the engines on a work bench. Way I do them is put the plastic cover on, start the 2 bottom bolts by hand, lower the top metal cover, whilst holding the plastic one out with screwdriver, get the top one on then let the bottom one go. They're not that hard just not much room to get hands in.

Thats what I ended up doing, putting the bolts in it is great fun too. That rear top bolt f**k me.

Lol they are one of the easier cam belts ive ever done (normally on a ramp though) and you can tilt the engine up or down to get more room at the top/bottom, and that top rear bolt of the back cover is always nice. the covers i dont normally have a problem with. But you have done well so well done.
