Help needed ASAP. O/S inner drive shaft boot split, how to remove/repair?

Now then guys. I'm in the process of swapping springs on mine and a mates Clio and I noticed my drivers side drive shaft boot has split. It is the boot that is half way along the shaft and mates to a metal cylinder containing bearings.

How do I go about removing the shaft? I have unbolted the metal plate that is visible through the wheel arch but what next?

Is this an easy fix?

Hanging off you're every word here Frederico. I'd prefer the repair option.

How exactly does the drive shaft come out. I can pull it in and out but it won't pop. Is there a circlip or roll pin anywhere?

Is the boot a Renault only job?

you don't have to drop the box oil on the o/s one..

Not sure about the drivers side as never done one, but to remove the shaft your going to have to drain the oil from the box. You can take it to a place that can remanufacture the driveshaft for you, strip it down, replace joints, rebuild with new gaitors and clips. I know a place in worcestor that does it. Might aswel get it all done whiles its off, as if your messing about with it the other gaitor can easily get damaged.

However just powering on my laptop to find you a part number for that gaitor.

The outer (hub end) gaitor kit is 7701469021 about £10. The inner (gearbox end) gaitor kit is 7701470566 about £35. The bot come complete with clips, grease etc.

Magic, cheers Dave. Just found out I can get a full new shaft for £78 exchange so going to go with that option.

Just need to work out removal.

If its like the shafts on my valver, obv hub off, knock the roll pin out and bobs your uncle. Much easier than taking out the passenger side!

just a tip always buy the genuine gaitor kit.... the fake ones that motorfactors sell are rubbish..

Cheers Sami, where is the roll pin?

I can see the cylindrical section of the shaft half way down. There is then a plate bolted just behind this then the shaft carries on into the box.

According to the haynes manual if its got a roll pin fitted (mine doesn't) it'll be by the inner CV joint at the gearbox end. You'll need to rotate the shaft until you can see it.
