Washing up liquid...

I'll start off by saying NO I don't use it lol!!

I'm just curious as to how many people on here actually use it to wash their cars?

My next door neighbour washes his Saab with it and one of my mates at work washes her other halfs new TT with it, i've explained to them what it can do, the neighbour isn't bothered and the TT lady was mortified! lol.

So come on folks... who uses it?

I know it strips of the old wax etc. I have used it now and again when i have ran out of shampoo, but i have reapplied the wax afterwards.

It contains loads of salts... salt + water vs car = bad

Loads of the US lot use there equivilant called Dawn to wash there cars before applying Zaino.

i use to back in the day mainly coz i dint really care, was always doing stupid things to get the car in rediclouse states and tooo tight to fork out for car shampoo, all that was behind me when i started using this site and started to care for the car, oh and to top it off i used it with a spong too

An old guy that lives next to my work uses fairy liquid and a brush to clean his 206.

I had a look the other day and the paintwork is apalling!

only ever used it b4 car went into have spray work done, then when it came out applied many layers of zymol to build up some protection again.

I'm sure washing liquid is bad for your paint but have you ever seen TFR that stuff feels like grit if you get even the smallest amount of it in your eyes, it's like soap times 100!!!
Now I bet that stuff strips the wax. A chap at my old work used to wash his car every day with that suff foamed all over it for about 10 minutes, undiluted, in the sun.
It can bring on and give you skin complaints it's so strong.

tbh its really good if you put it in a spray bottle n do your windows!! i dont put it on the paintwork tho..

I remember I washed my Mum's black BMW in the sun with washing up liquid when I was about 12... it looked good from a distance (about 500 yards) - close up it was terrible. Why did my parents even let me near it?!

Think I used some kind of brush too and an old leather that may well have been the skin of a dinosaur.

I use it prob once a month. Use it before applying new wax to get all the old stuff off. It basically acts like zymol hd cleanser and I find preps the surface nicely.

I find removing the old wax first prevents muting the flakes in the flip.

You might as well use hair shampoo and about 10 tablespoons of salt to wash your car with.

G/f's parents bought a brand new car, and have used fairy liquid and a brush to wash it with. Paint is awful and it's only a year old. You can't tell some people.

Sometimes use it (very dilute) to get old wax off etc. It is good for cleaning wheels & exhaust tips

The problem isn't so much the paintwork, it won't strip wax that much, maybe no more than a strong shampoo solution.

It does however tarnish/stain rubber mouldings/seals etc
