for an ipod, im pretty sure you have to use itunes to transferr music, other wise it wont play the song files.

do you have an ipod? its easier to use itunes. i dont have a problem with it.

But im guessing he is just sending the files across using windows for example.

Laptop is atleast 1 1/2 years old, and Ipod just bought 2day,

no i told him not to download Itunes becouse his laptop is allready slow and he wont put a bigger Ram init lol, so i told him to :

My computer then Ipod Removable Disc, thats how i used to do my Zen.

hes takin the laptop to Pcworld tommorw as hes got a 5year cover or something, but as for the Ipod i have told my mum to take it back and get a Phillips 1,

i can't knock the ipod software as its good and all but i only changed for the about of music it supports.

also, its now like a mass storage device, i just drop music into a folder...it doesnt compress and make all the songs begin with a million letters and numbers!

Thats your problem then, unless u modify the ipod you cant put music on it when its in disk mode - you have to use itunes (or a compatible piece of software) and do it that way

Jay;

Apple's software compress's all the music into a "readable" format and then stores it in some jargon! (AAC files i believe??!!)

Basically, dragging and dropping is just putting files on there like a harddrive, the ipod does not support mp3's

I'd recommend using iTunes intially incase any updates are required etc etc.

You will not of damaged your ipod, just get itunes bashed on
