which is the BEST name in ICE? alpine? sony? and other "full install" questions...

i am just about to buy another 172 or prob. 182. i had one before and spent fortunes on the head unit/speakers etc and will be looking to do this again as soon as i find the right car. quite simply, which is your favourite brand? my only stipulations are 1 - it must work with stalk/display and 2 - the front must be removable or some other decent type of anti-theft, NOT a front which just hides itself inside the HU - did that make sense? and 3 - it must have full ipod functionality. not bothered what it costs, just want the best, pref with sat nav? any ideas? also i will be uprating all the speakers (front tweeters included) and fitting some 6x9s in parcel shelf (and covering of course) can someone recommend a brand of speaker to me? i would like to keep all the speakers the same brand if poss. also i read somewhere there is a sub you can fit under your seat, is this true? anyone got one? is the sound good? i dont want to lose boot space although i dont mind an amp fitted to the back of the back seats. any help is massively appreciated!

Alpine are always good headunits and 99% of all HU on the market support Ipods now.

However as for 6x9s, there is no need, why dont you not want a sub box in the boot? You can buy small subboxes and fit a really good Rockford Fosgate into it and reep the benefits.

Front speakers i would go for Focals right now, they are producing the best of the best with Components.

i am thinking of alpine as its highly regarded and i have never had it but does it work with the display and stalk? also i dont want to lose boot space, as i said i dont mind an amp fixed to back of seat but a big box in there is a no-no

i would definately recommend alpine headunits. i wouldnt recommend 6x9's, they are ok but ultimately they are not designed for a specific task, for instance componets have a tweater for treble and a mid bass speaker. 6x9s just tend to produce a bit of everything so as soon as you turn them up they tend to distort.
for bass a sub is the best method, if you dont want to loose boot space there are sub boxes available that can be placed under the seats, or a custom box with allows the sub to be mounted above the wheelarch section of the boot meaning you dont really loose any floor space

You can get 8" Speakers which give out pretty good Bass and they can be mounted in the Parcel Shelf, My brother had them and they were quite good,

As for Components and Speakers I'd go for Genesis Products, Quite pricey but they're hand built speakers and Amps, Seriously good bit of kit!!

Alpine do produce some of the Best HU's and I had one in my old car and it had all the functions needed!

My Alpine iDA-X001 HU works with my stalk, but you need an adapter which is about £25.
