5.1 speaker help needed

I'm looking into getting some 5.1 speakers that i can use for my Macbook Pro and also eventually when i get a PS3. (I wont have an HDTV though)..


I was keen to get either of these:

I'm having trouble finding out if I can connect them to my macbook or not..
As far as I can tell I need an optical input from the speakers.

Can anyone help me?

You dont need an input from the speakers mate, has your mac got optical out or just normal headphone socket output??

optical. apparently if you just go through the headphone socket it doesnt use all the speakers in a 5.1 system. i need to find out for definite though.
