Changing lower arm/wishbone

  Saab 93 Aero Wagon
Going to do this myself. I suspect a lower balljoint having gone so im gonna change it.

Can anyone provide me with a walkthru guide or is it a fairly straightforwad job?

Also is it common sense to do the front pair instead of just one side?

if i was doing it id do both sides, im fitting new poweflex bushes soon, doesnt look too hard to get the arms off, im more worried about getting the old bushes out but thats a different story.

Probably but you dont have to worry about that!

Its a straight forward job thats obvious to do when you're looking at it.

Basically remove the arb bush, then the bolt into the hib on the balljoint and then the 2 bolts onto the subframe, fitting is the reverse order.

I did think as much....i just like having the 2nd opinion from people in the know who have actually done it...

jack the car up

remove the arb 13mm bolt and clamp (under the arm)

crack the ball joint bolt off (think its 18mm)

remove the first bolt on the wishbone (at this point make note of the order of all the nuts washers and bolts

remove the second side 21mm nut and bolt.

then the support arm to the chasis

the arm will pull off

the new arm will come pre assembled with the lower part of the ball joint bolted on.

re fit in reverse

What?!

Dont really understand teh question. The ARB=anti roll bar. The new wishbone will come with 2 bushes and the balljoint pre-fitted and thats it.

i did this recently, really easy job, easier done on axle stands mind. the only problem i had was the ball joint was a twa t to seperate from the hub as its the wrong way round for ball joint splitters.

word of advise, mine is probably worse as mines done a fair few miles but i did my wishbones last saturday at work with use of air trools and ramps and the rear bolt for the rear wishbone bush wouldn't come out for love nor money, ended up getting the oxy bottles on them, and if i had been doing that at home id been stuffed

No need to remove the ball joint if your ball joints bolted to the wishbone. Just undo the two two nuts and leave the ball joint in situ.
