should i get a oil cooler for 172?



  m-tec bmw 325 ci spo
after sein batmans thread sein him putting an oil cooler on and when i asked why it was for trackdays and he said clios run hot on motorway driving aswell got me thinking is it worth me getting one on as i will be doing a few trackdays and is there a dissadvantage to them?

I can't see the point tbh...

My 85k mk2 172 does a lot of motorway miles, quite often 400+ in a day, and i have never once had to top up the oil, between services/ oil changes.

you rekon mine will be ok on the odd trackday fred i am on my 3rd engine now dont wanna do this one in aswell lol

cambelt broke on the first at 29000 then on the second the block it self failed so im on the third now

if your doing the odd track day then i'd fit one i know 2 other people personally that have one fitted with no complaints

and i though it was unlucky having 1 go, when your block went did you get it sorted at k-tec, they told me they have only ever had 2 engine failures and mentioned 1 about a con rod going through the block, not so long ago?

nope renteh sorted me another engine outand fitted it renault woulndt pay out even though it was in warrrenty and had only done 5,000 miles

Ive got one, no complaints but even though it has a stat the car runs too cool in the winter even if i tape the cooler up.

with an termostatic take off plate you shouldnt see any disadvantages at all. I plan to fit an oil cooler just for motorway miles tbh because clio RS gear ratios are a bit silly and as the revs climb so does the oil temperature.
I am aware that i don't really need one, but i'm going to fit one for peice of mind
