Bumps and handling 182

Does anyone else find that when they are going around a bend on a B or C road that is not of the best quality ( a few minor potholes, road a bit uneven, u know what i mean) that u suffer from what i can best describe as bump steer. So im going about 70-80 around a corner and i hit one of these bumps or little problems and the whole car just twitches completely, there is no give, makes me s**t myself everytime like im gonna lose it!!

Yet all i here is 182 is best handling car around those soughts of roads, i dont doubt it cause i know it is like glue but i just am not convinced about them when on old roads. Does anyone know what i mean? is it just cause of how stiff the chassis is? Suspension set up? its all standard cup pack so im a littel confused!

Trophy excells in those conditions, thats what it was designed for.

Anyone can floor it on a main road, the fun starts on rough 'b' roads, sorts the men from the boys.

Most cars with sports/hard suspension and wide wheels and tyres do it matey..

Oh and the 182 was one of the the best handlling reno's until the 197 was released..

so ur saying thats what they do ,twitch all over the place and you just gotta manage it? cause to be fair i say it twitches but it does always reset itself and hold again afterwards!

Mine does this too, never lets go though but does make me slow down. If its excessive might be the rear shocks that have gone, common problem.

Theres a piece of A road I take in the morning where theres a join in the road on a long sweeping bend, hit that at 80+ and it feel like the car flies to the left. All good fun.

yes i thought it was just normal, cause im running Eagle F1's whcih in my mind are one of the best, simply ausome lol! But yes as u say it does always hang on afterwards, and i suppose u just gotta trust ur car!

Stiff suspension + un-sophisticated rear suspension causes this.

my dynamique does this, but if you let the car do what it wants to do youll be fine, basically just ignore the movement.

I sort of know what you mean, theres a sort of a what I can only describe as a slight "wobble" when attacking some sweeping bends on a B road. I normally feel this when going left. My theory is since there is usually no passenger when I'm having fun in the car, the passenger side is lighter and therefore the inside rear wheel is off the road momentarily activating the ESP.

Bearing in mind I'm no driving god, I turned off the ESP and tried the same stretch of road and I no longer get the wobble but feel the rear drift out ever so slightly and feeling more stable. ESP off for when having fun, ESP on for the misses.

Indeed....the rear shocks on my old 182 were shagged when i traded it in...awesome on wet roundabouts...turn in lift off....waayyyy big slide..lol

I know what you mean. I think what makes the Renaultsport Clios such good chassis is that they do deal with it - you know what's happening, but it'll get your ound the corner. If I tried the same thing in my girlfirend's Corsa it would result in lots or wallowy roll and scary understeer.

I know what you mean about this, you really feel the bumps as it's a small car. The bump damping is not that great which can make it frustrating to drive on a bad road.

Get yourself a 197, the double axis strut and improved bump damping eradicates these issues.

Well according to the latest Evo test, taken from another post;

I've read the article - they found the 197 frustrating as it's not adjustable and the ABS is too keen when you are trail braking to get the rear end into play (causing missed apex's).

They have a data-log trace of the cars and it shows that the peak mid corner grip in the 197 is higher than the Trophy (higher mechanical grip), but into and out of the corners the Trophy is faster and has the 'better' chassis.

You don't do much mileage, reckon you'll be missing out on the biggest benefits of a 197 (refinement etc). Fuel costs would be a worry as well, £1.50 litre and 25ish mpg:S. Don't get me wrong, if you sell I'll happily take some bits off your car.

The guy that posted this thread owns a 182 Sport with Cup packs. I don't understand why you're comparing to a Trophy as Steve was referencing his post based on his own experiences owning a Cup and a 197!?

What would happen if you came across a cyclist or a walker.... as you said it gets very choppy and tbh its much better than the competition i.e. Corsa VXR's Cooper S.

But if your not 100% confident that you can collect it if it does get choppy you shouldn't be doing those speeds.....

lol im 22 but I just wanna make sure its normal thats all! Not saying i cant handle it but better being safe than sorry! and in regards to speed im a sensible driver I dont speed unless its usually clear. but at the end of the day why do we buy such fun fast cars?

Stiff suspension and light car causes it to skip along rough surfaces. You think its bad in a Clio, you should try a VX/Elise!

I find that when l'm doing 130mph around Pilsworth the back end does twitch a little on the tighter stuff.

Not sure about my brakes too as it seems to take longer to stop from 130 than it does from 70.

Mine does this too - it's very twitchy on uneven surfaces.

Just hit the throttle mate and hold tight!
