My New Comps...

Fitted some infinty kappa comps over the weekend sounds great much better!! i know the locations of the comps wont be to everyones taste but i like it heres some pics

with this not sure what to do ??? want the speaker on show like this but not sure how to go about it?

if i cut out the grill part then would look ok at the bottom but not sure how to go about the top part as it wont look flush if you get what i mean?
any thoughts on what to do ?

Without seeing the extent of the problem, I would be looking at bringing the speaker to the door card rather than cutting the trim up.....You can usually achieve this using multiple MDF baffle rings as spacers, but obviously this all depends on any curvature of the stock plastic shrouds, (always best to obtain a spare set to work with & save the originals for future use)......

What amp are you driving these with???

Just wondering because these components are 2ohm.....If driven via a headunits internal amp these components could cause premature failure.....

ok thanks will look into that then, at the moment i dont have an amp running didnt have time to do it but i do have one here ready to go in its this one (Below) so you say it can cause premature failure how does that happen?

99% of headunit amps use a switching power supply which basically means they are already bridged.....no too complicated.....

ohms law, if you halve the impedance, output will double, (as will current draw)....

at say volume level 25....

10 watts into 4ohms = say 3amp current consumption
20 watts into 2ohms = say 6amp current consumption

So in effect, using lower impedence speakers drags more output from the amp, assuming the amp can support this.....if the amps using a 'switching' power supply it is effectively already bridged.....no getting too complicated again......

Using 2ohm speakers at moderate volume from a headunit will exceed the thermal limits of your headunits amp, (as in it won't be long before the amp turns into a silicone cream egg).....

your soundstage must be awful! tweets should really be at shoulder level ...why didn't you mount them in the 'A' pillars??

ok will get it fitted asap i am a total noob at this stuff
and you seem to know what your talking about! so with the
amp will it make it louder ? or get louder without distortion if that
makes sense ?

More power = more output, with less chance of 'clip', (assuming amp is correctly setup)....

Once the amp is in use I reckon your installation will become your next stumbling block.....nothing worse than resonating panels sapping output and screwing with sound quality.....

I would recommend;

1, mount speaker using MDF baffles.....
2, Seal MDF baffles where they meet the door.....
4, Sound deaden the outer door skin using smallish pieces of deadening passed through the inner door skins access holes....(cover as much as you can)....
5, Deaden the inner door skin, cover all access holes to effectively create a sealed area between the inner & outer skins, (be careful not to foul any mechanisms, motors or control rods)....

the above steps will greatly improve the output level experienced inside your car, you will also notice a marked improvement in mid bass & overall sound quality.....(added bonus for your neighbours will be much lower noise outside your car)....

Why not just put them where the tweeters were meant to go...

There is no 'correct' place to mount a tweeter, they should be fitted to suit the owners/listeners tastes....

In fact, if you really wish to get picky, the tweeter should be mounted as close as possible to the mid range speaker, (some manufacturers stipulate 12" or less)....

Music is a form of entertainment, as such it should be fun, everyone has individual tastes so each install should mirror its owners own tastes, not conform to a recognised norm....

By all means advise on tweeter placement, just remember what suits you may not suit me, but in the last 3 cars I've had the tweeters have been sited in 3 different locations to give similar results....This is why I always recommend experimenting with tweeter placement/aiming using BLU-TACK to mount the tweeters....
