Numberplates!

  Astra Twintop
Ordered my personalised plates earlier :)

now, i need to know the exact rules on what i can and cant have on the plates.

AFAIK:

The standard font
some sort of postcode on them (dealership i think?)
the BS number

Obviously you can have slight variations, as you can buy "showplates" off ebay, i did before with my old car, and never got stopped, but then they were of legal font and spacing etc etc

Any help would be brilliant.

These metals plates ive seen are illegal as well aren't they?

  Ph1 172 + Combo van
you can buy metal ones which are reflective now so they are legal.
on the back just go for standard i think but on the front 3/4 size looks good. standard fort or simaler imo is the best!

  Focus RS Mk1
plain and simple works best, my plates arent legal BUT they have std sized font, the correct font and the right colour etc so chances of them being noticed are quite slim :)

dubmeister do the road legal metal ones.

or rather they tell you where your local stockist is

  Ph1 172 + Combo van
as above^ for the metal reflective plates!
imo standard on the back and 3/4 height full size width on the front

  Monaco Blue 172 (56/468)
iv had my 3/4 front plates on for 2-3 weeks now and passed dozens of cop cars now and havnt been pulled, keep a proper one in the boot just in case tho..........

Sweet news about the legal pressed plates, gonna get me a set.

Anyone know why cant they be ordered online?

Because in order for them to be legal plates and BS marked, the dealer has to have checked your entitlement to have plates with that number on - by checking the original copy of your V5, number plate retention form, etc.

The legal number plates don't allow for much....
Go into any car accessory shop (that does number plates) and they will have on display all of the legal options.... there is very little lee-way when it comes to spacing. In fact, there's very little lee-way full stop.
I know a few people who have been pulled and given 14 days to present evidence that they have been changed. The show plates etc from eBay are a waste of time if you plan to drive around with them on, because you will get done... (clearly the police have a lot of time on their hands!)

I unknowingly had non legal plates on mine as they were on when i bought it, and got stoped the other week and threatened with 3points and a £1000 fine if i didnt change them there and then.... i had to perswade him that i only lived close and i would get them changed the next day....
so off i went to halfords.....

its a must for the right spacing, lettering, font, bs number, postcode etc or they will just rip a big hole in ya pocket!!

SCO3OTT, arguably the police may more wisely invest their time in some of society's larger burdens! e.g. the fact everyone seems to be getting stabbed?! I understand it to a certain extent though, as if the plates are the wrong text or spaced incorrectly, their traffic systems can't process the data etc. But still, i like a moan! ;)

Ive been to a shop called Carnoissure in Ilford today, Ordered the legal uk pressed plates, the bloke was unsure of my driving licence name not being the name on the V5 (mums name is) so he was on the phone to dubmeister for a while, all sorted and ordered.

Should get them on monday, im excited !

Do most people glue them on? I dont want them nicked and im not really sure about No more nails on the boot paint ?

Might get some Richbrook anti theft numberplate screws.

Get some heavy duty velcro, easy to change over aswell for the plod/mot.

Failing that I would just use the double sided number plate pads you can get from halfords etc. Tbh I don't think anyone will nick your numberplate even if it is pressed, not really any use to them is it?

Heavy duty velcro from the likes of B&Q, it comes in a yellow & black packet. I think that having stuck on plates is illegal though.

You'd be surprised M0ssy, I have heard of so many people's number plates being stolen... and apparently once they have them they could get you in a fair bit of trouble if you don't report it if they go on to do things that aren't particularly legal!...

i thought all new cars where supplyed with stuck on number plates?, at least my clio did.... no screw holes anywhere
Yeah most clios have the rear plate stuck on with some mega strength glue/tape (so much so that the plate would be fooked if you tried to rip it off)

I read the bit about the plates on here, they quoted it from somewhere else. Mine are stuck on (very well though) never had a prob.

Yeah, my mum n dad had there plates nicked. The people who nicked them can use them on there car for illegal use etc; Going through speed cameras.

Just not worth the hassle for the clean look.

Ill get the Richbrook anti theft screws.
