Failed MOT

  BMW 323i Coupe
Fitted two brand new tyres yesterday, bought a new hazard light switch, and then washed, hoovered and waxed the car today.. Failed the M.O.T. :(

"Nearside front track rod end ball joint has excessive play."

At least it was for something that I didn't know about rather than being something obvious.

Having repairs done on Monday and then a re-test, was told that worst case scenario will be £60 - £70 for repairs. But the MOT was only £45 instead of the £50 I thought it was.

Yea its the track rod end on the steering rack. Only thing id say is im an MOT tester, and very rarely see any fail on the track rod end, its usually the actual track arm - mine included lol. Fitted to track arms jobs a good un :approve:

£45 bloody hell thats a lot for an mot round our way is £25-35

If i remember correctly a MOT is a set fee of £50 and a few pence(not sure exactly how much). I know a lot of garages do them cheaper, but it is a bit frowned upon by the DOT.

The car is at the garage at the moment, felt horrible having to walk home. But I got to drive my mums car for a while, and it purrs like a kitten. Going to pick it up in the next hour, MOT retest should be done then, and the tracking rod should be fixed.
