Question for the technicians on the forum

My 182 has used a tad of coolant over the period of 14k miles. its gone from the max mark to half way down between max and min. I myself am a vw tech and have had a similar prob and after pressure testing a particular car several times and finding nothing it turned out to be the expansion tank cap "venting" and the pressure relief valve in the cap was stuck slightly-thus letting off steam over a period of time causing the level to slowly drop. just wondering if the clio suffers the same at all.The car has never been a prob and ive pressure tested for leaks with no sign of anything.Ive even recently done the aux belt and checked the water pump housing at the same time-all clean.Any ideas

I'd say that level of useage was within tolerance to be honest. Thats 500ml or so of coolant in 14,000 miles. So 0.0357ml of coolant per mile ;-)

Venting cap is always a possibility and its worth changing them for the pence they cost if there is a doubt as to its condition.

If it was mine I wouldn't be worrying about it chap until the amount of coolant going missing increased much, much more.

thank you mate for your reply.im gonna do a coolant change anyway so will replace the cap at the same time and see how it goes. all the best
