I had a random police winter check outside my flat a few months back - sidelights they checked for some reason. So bulbs are in!

plans, none really need to build up some savings again.

2 years on the 172 is going strong, currently on 69,977miles, just MOT'd it today, one advisory for osf track rod end.

For anyone considering a 172 as a daily runner here's a run down of what I've done to keep this mechanically tip top:

  • Handbrake cables replaced March 09 - £140
  • New battery April 09 - £67.99 (steep!)
  • Konis adjustables, OEM top mounts and Eibach Sportlines fitted October 09 - £400
  • Wheel alignment Nov 09 - £40
  • Service @ 61,426 miles Jan 09 - £170
  • MOT Jan 10 - £50
  • New discs and pads all round Feb 10 - £210
  • 2 Hankook Ventus tyres (front) July 10 - £122
  • New Track rods, camber bolts fitted and alignment / camber setup Sep 10 - £210
  • Oil service @ 66,960miles Oct 10 - £70
  • New windscreen washer bottle Oct 10 - £100
  • Replacement rear koni shock Nov 10 - £130
  • 2 Hankook Ventus tyres (rear) Nov 10 - £126
  • Replacement Hankook tyre after pothole attach (front) Dec 10 - £63
  • MOT Feb 11 - £40
Fuel economy - average 29.662mpg (20 miles per day on motorway and 30mph roads in rush hour traffic mainly),
35mpg on longer runs with a heavy right foot (A road or motorway).

Over the last 3 months while I've been recording all expenditure using a sad android app called aCar I've got the following stats:

£5.65 per day running costs (inc fuel, insurance, mot, tax, rac membership servicing and repairs)

Cheaper than commuting by train or bus, quick enough and chuckable enough to put a massive grin on my face.

I am toying with the idea of changing but TBH nothing comes close, costs me £175.15 a month in total to run and I can get £200 - £400 a month in business mileage - result!
