Mk1 172 Hybrid Speedo Video

Did a few runs the other day for my project thread....thought id post up in here to see what people think to the pace of it....the 2nd and 3rd runs are probably the best to go off...

For those of you that saw the last video ( here ), or have read my project thread, you might have realised that the rev limiter was far too low (sub 6k), this has now been fixed, running at 7k+ now :) To show the difference, here are a couple of *approximate* graphs of some data we got....

average ;)

Glad its all sorted now... I imagine it "feels" and goes alot quicker with the correct map on!!!

Had a chance to weigh the car yet?

Not yet....got a few bits to sort next few days.....Front polycarbs with sliders, sunroof is going polycarb sealed in like whiteleys, 'trimming' the doors with the grinder....then il nip it down the road to the weighbridge :)

I want to put it against a std 172 ph1 to see what difference if any, as IMO there should be. IIRC they are 1149KG standard? If im 850kg or less, thats 300kg+ difference, so there should be quite a bit of difference on the road! If there is nothing in it, there is obviously still something wrong with my car (timing or otherwise lol)

But yeah....It feels rediculous compared to the 1.4 map, pulls so much harsher all the way to the limiter, totally different car.

Ahh cool, I must be thinking of the 172 Ph2's or something to get that weight, cant remember where I got that number in my head from!

  340i
aii 1059KG is standard PH-1 weight, Just to give you an idea of the "competition"...

Mine is stripped.... standard glass, dash flocked with a few bits chopped out, CD player and speakers, standard front seats (when the car was weighed), standard front seat belts etc.

927KG With half a tank of fuel IIRC

That was on my local weigh bridge, it must be pretty accurate though as it is used for scrap metal weigh in's!?

With my bucket and harnesses in I am hoping for 900KG with half a tank of fuel!

cool! yeah mine will be the local scrapper, obviously it isnt going to be 100% accurate as its for 30Tonne+ lorries, but it gives you an idea lol

When I went down, got a few funny looks off the 20stone truck drivers...

"why you got orange wheels pal?"

"where's your car seats"

Thought they where going to gang rape me TBH hahaa! :dead:

900! Can't beleive mines half a tonne heavier! PIG IRON!

LOL!

Just losing 150KG off a 172 makes so much difference... Totally different car, plus its free power ;)

But how on earth do you get the power down, i thought the std 172 was bad enough to drive. 172bhp to the front wheels was a struggle. With a 200+BHP/tonne ratio it must be a joke!

  172 - 249bhp @ the wheels

200bhp/ton is fine, it's when it get to 300/ton things get interesting lol

  Bus w**ker
Quite a few CSers going to Santa Pod on the 30th. I'm planning on going but I'm out the piss the night before so not 100%, but apart from a s**t chav exhaust my Ph1 is totally standard...I don't mind being humiliated lol.

any other date i would have definately gone.....with brands on the 27th though its a bit too close to be driving down south (for me) that way twice in the space of a few days :(

I've never had a problem really... :S Not really had the car loose traction or struggle?!

The odd times if you floor it through first and second you will get a little wheel spin!

PE2's, KW's, 2.0deg negative camber, slight toe in... I suppose that helps a little :)

too much camera shake matey! thing is though, it doesnt look any faster than my old F7R, il dig the film out, 0-limiter in 5th (142 ish) in 28 secs, with breathing mods

Now im not saying that to put yours down in the slightest as you would happily hand my ph1 its ass lol, but what is the advantages of fitting the F4R over the F7?

Throttle control FFS! Mine spins in 3rd and 4th in the wet if I drive like a pecker on a spirited run. Drive it properly and I'm going faster, without any wheelspin. You need some talent Scotland ;)

PS, looks f**king quick Jord!

The camera was on a window mount too....not much else I can do....hard ride eh!

Advantages.... ~170bhp on F4R over ~150bhp on F7R standard, better MPG for definate, my williams engine was pretty poor once you started giving it some...Also more options for tuning available IMO....Turbo/Supercharger/ITBs/Cams....its just alot easier to get the parts and get it done than on the 'older' engines as I see it....

So basically I saw it as 'why not' lol, its something different, and im already 15-20bhp up on a F7R before ive even started modding the engine....(I was also fed up of my F7R going wrong all the time, suppose you get good and bad ones though tbh!)

My williams engine (Meg bottom end + willy head) with williams manifold/decat/itg filter was nowhere near on par with this, if i had to go back to it, It would seem as if it didnt 'pull' as well as the F4R does, thats how it feels anyway!

If you've seen my thread, we logged the data to do those graphs^, which can also give an *estimated* (being the key word, before anyone goes off on one) 0-160kmh (~100mph) time.....

0-100_Run2_SpeedRPMPolyThrottle.jpg

0-100_Run3_SpeedRPMPolyThrottle.jpg

As you can see, wheelspin in first, and as i said its estimated, as got to take into account speedo error, etc....but IMO its not going to be more than 12-13.odd seconds, counting in my head from a standstill is 11-12 to 100mph indicated on the clocks....

Compare that to a 172 time of around 17 seconds....its obviously going to be alot quicker....

Cool matey, thank you for that :) My old F7R would hit the tone in 13.9 secs, so if you do get down towards the 11 then thats well nice :)

Can def understand what you mean, agree with the more tuning options available, and fair play to goin with it, i couldnt carry out that conversion!

i guess i got lucky with my old one, was a fast one, and still did 40 mpg

yeah...its been an effort working various things out between Matteh and a few others, that hadnt been previously 'ironed out'.....main one being the rev counter reading correctly, working OBD2 port and a few other bits!

It took a while to get it going due to the first 172 engine I got being siezed, but if I had to do it again, it would be easy as pie....as 99% the niggles/bugs of the conversion have been ironed out (the 1% being a shift light on the dash ;))

im sure i rememberreading about your first engine, good to see this ones better matey :) so whats the plan for it next once its all running nice and you have enjoyed driving it for a bit? :)

Had a cage sat here for 3 months, needs welding in etc....get interior painted, then just drive it for the summer :) Ring in july then a few trackdays booked after it etc....

*may* be putting some cams in it quite soon, but thats 50/50 at the moment dependant on a few things, but either way itl do for now! RenaultSport brands hatch trackday next week, will see how it fairs against the RS's ;)
