Update: Vinyled Diamonds, Smaller Aerial, Sub in Spare Wheel Well

Well, i've never sprayed anything before and thought i'd give it a go, saw the price of paint in halfords, and with my painting skill i thought naaaaa.

Was going to do the diamonds in carbon vinyl i found on ebay but decided to go with black (could change soon!) only cost me £3.25 for 1m x 610mm, got loads left! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=370199924832

Then, my dad was up the scrapyard the other day and i told him to look out for a small aerial, managed to get me one for £1!, "was off some kind of people carrier thing" but the screw that threads onto the car was covered by extra plastic of the aerial, 30 seconds later with a little hacksaw it fits, and sits nice on the base.

Put my sub in spare wheel well the other day, decided to tidy it all up looks pretty tidy i think now

not that difficult, i used a stanley knife, and made slits at every edge and used a credit card to squeeze the air bubbles out, its not perfect but its a cheap enough job, carbon ones would hide the imperfections.

i know mate, i cleaned it all up when i was building it, but got impatient and put the carpet in still abit damp, so this week my cars smelled like someones died in it! used a hole bottle of odour neautraliser, gonna try get a new one, and a grille to cover the sub

easy enough, when you peel it off it isnt sticky at all but once on ithe badges ts blooody sticky, i started at one corner of the badge and used a credit card to scrape bubbles out, then pulled it really tight over the diamond and cut out the diamond shaped in the middle, it didn't cover the inside completely but you can get away with using little offcuts to tidy up

cheers mate, gonna see how long it lasts, and if i get bored maybe get some "amphasite" or carbon, i like vinyl alot now less effort then paining and easy to change colors:approve:

whos knows its used for signwriting on vans so cant see there being any problems other then stone chips really, tempted by carbon now

... continuing on from the vinyl diamond idea, here's my idiot's guide on how I fitted some to mine:

Nice...

First of course I removed the diamond from the car. This was really easy and I didn't need any tools... I just pulled it off. Makes me wonder why it hasn't been nicked already!

Next I cleaned the diamond with washing up liquid, rinsed and allowed to dry. I would have used scouring powder but I wasn't sure if I would want to replace it as standard at a later date.

So here's what I had:

1 sheet of vinyl
1 diamond
1 pair scissors

Next I cut a piece of the vinyl around the diamond, making sure there's plenty of 'overhang' all the way around.

Next I turned the sheet over and marked the top edge to where I wanted the backing to start sticking to the diamond (needless to say I was still adjusting things in this photo!)

Next I removed the backing and turned over. The vinyl backing isn't too sticky so I was careful not too touch it unnecessarily.

Next I carefully worked the vinyl into position and pressed down with my fingers, being careful not to leave any creases or bubbles.

Next I cut around the excess vinyl... and my first mistake
Leave more than you think will be necessary so you have enough remaining to wrap around the outer surface of the diamond.

Next, press the vinyl around the front surface again, wrapping the excess around the outer surfaces of the diamond. You will have creases in the corners. Once I made the best job I could, I lifted the small creases, snipped with the scissors, and reset.

Next I snipped the vinyl in the middle so I could wrap this around the inner surfaces of the diamond. There won't be quite enough to cover the entire inner surfaces so, depending on how fussy you are, I then snipped a few pieces and stuck them in situ at the end.

Further smoothing with the handle of the scissors and the diamond was almost finished.

... and soon fitted :approve:

Having finished and fitted it, I think it's not very noticeable from the original :dapprove:

What do you think? I am thinking of painting it to match the grille now :clown: ... what colour is best for that?
