matched inlets?

  ibiza cupra
if you have the inlets matched, do you have them matched with the head as well? if so how would it make a difference if you bought a set of ready matched inlets as your head would not have been matched with them.

or have i got it compleatly wrong.

ye you have sort of got it wrong but not completely.

in simpleman terms

The inlets are boshed out in the factory and are slightly smaller than the head as standard and have some minor imperfections in them. getting them matched i.e ported etc, means you will have better smoother airflow delivery as such.

hope this helps.

For the record i will be selling a set of these when i convert over to ITBS in approx 2 weeks.

haha i remeber years and years ago when i was at college and they got us to make an attempted of porting a head (i repeat the word attempt)

they gave us drills with stone drills and said just make them bigger, so funny the out come was. s**t

the long and short of it is yes it will work a bit better matched to the head, but the gains are minimal, the inlets are cast seperatly at the factory, some are bad, some are terrible and decent gains are available by matching the inlets

on taking my inlet manifold off and matching it to the inlets on the cylinder head (using the gasket as a template) I found that the face of the manifold where it meets the cylinder head needed about 3-4mm taken off around almost its entire circumference to match the inlets inthe cylinder head face.
Surely that is going to make a noticeable difference...

you should notice a difference in torque i believe.

Interesting point though Johnny, been wondering for a while now what companies like angel-works and JAM do to the inlets. From what i can gather they are just bored out a bit (correct me if i'm wrong) but not matched to the head.

Been thinking about going to a porting specialist near me to get mine done, but fully matched up.

If you are going to get it done, would suggest PTFE gaskets for them.
