£510

Car  Static Low
For my timing belt change (Due next month anyway), a new oil pump & two drop links. Price includes labour & VAT

Work is taking place at Andrew Gallagher Motorsport

1.2 16v

Good price ??

And what is this aux belt malarky ive been reading up on ??

Thanking you :)

that seems quite a bit, i mean the cambelt is a fair amount of the cost (if not most) but i had my 172 cambelt done the other day (harder than 1.2 due to lack of bay space) and it cost me £257 plus they changed my front pads! £510 seems a bit much to me.

EDIT: (I supplied the cambelt kit from ktec for 145 ish though)

yup that is way over the top,

i payed about 230ish last year for mine inc new water pump and aux belt inc service,

hmmm..

really confused about it all :S

supposedly the job for just the oil pump was £384 or somethijng

Was gonna say, Oil pump is a fair amount for the part!

OUt of interest, why are you having it done?

I had my timing belt on the 1.2 Rep changed a few weeks ago at a Renault Dealers.. also had aux belt and water pump changed at the same time which cost £296 overall... Timing belt on its own was £140 inc labour and I thought I was being robbed especially on the water pump, but you are being seriously shafted! lol.. my advice... go somewhere else!

Seriously, read the post, An oil pump is mega money, so comparing it to a straight belt kit change is retarded.

DO you think labour is free FFS.

what you changing oil pump for?! lol

if you ment water pump which you should 100% change with cambelt then i wouldnt be paying anymore than £250 for the lot inc parts and labour infact id probably expect the drop links done for that or just a bit more! their bloddy harder than the cambelt lol.

aux belts on these cars take 2 minutes and cost about £7 lol

When I had a 1.2 the timing belt, tensioner kit and aux belt cost £157

Your quote seems pricey but then I don't know how much it would be for the oil pump and drop links.

id be questioning that, genuine parts cost more than that never mind labour, even using gates parts thats not leaving much for labour. for a 5 hour + job

plus i doubt the aux belt has been done for that, which if snaps will take your cambelt with it!

EDIT: i just read what you posted and realised you supplyed parts lol

chipped the oil pump yesterday by accident

badtimes indeed

supposedly its between £150 & £200 for a new one

looking at about 5/6 hours labour aswell thats between £30-£40 per hour

lol erm well..

ok oil filter wouldnt come free soo.. my mate (honda tech) took a chizel and hammer to it. eye off the ball for a split second and craacked it or something. the filter finall came off in half..the threads were like jammed.. banged new one on.. filled up with oil and then the oil was pissin out

blah blahh..

got towed to andrew gallagher who checked it over today

A chisel and hammer!?!? WTF! I wouldn't want him working on my car. I always assumed the oil pump was actually in the sump?!?!

I've always just used a filter wrench, even on tractors were the filters not been changed for years and not had a problem, never done a 1.2 16v though :) Any chance he's cracked the block?

couldnt tell you tbh.. am not exactly clued up

accidents happen and thats it buit hes putting up some of the cash anyway which is good

the oil pump/filter housing is all one unit on the 1.2 16V it sits round the lower crank pulley (so its a belt off job anyway)

Mr Gallagher knows his stuff guys so im sure he is well aware what is involved in the job even if it does sound a bit of expensive !!! But he doesnt build and own a 800BHP focus for no reason !!!

needs the waterpump doing also mate

Waterpump &.. aux belt bud ??

How much extra ? :dapprove:

Correct indeed mate. Should see his collection of sierra and escort cossies out the back :approve:

I dont think with the amount of work being done thats a bad price, just gotta make sure the place definetely have the specific renault kit for doing the job otherwise the timing will be out

I'd say that for the price and his expertise he'll have priced for this too, give him a ring, be polite and ask him what he'll be doing as it seems a lil pricey, if he's genuine he'll have no problem explaining the parts :)
