Should i be worried?

  GTD, Lupo
Today i decided to have a little look at my oil level as i noticed the computer level thingie was showing 4 o`s some times then 6 other times. The dip stick on the 200 is pretty wnak to be honest and i ended up trying to get a good level reading a number of times. This meant that i was cleaning the oil from the dip stick with a rag and the oil on the rag has a strong smell of fuel. Not like straight fuel smell but the only thing i can compare it to is the smell you get from the karts when go karting. Sounds silly i know, but its not a regular oil smell :D.

Ive always beem taught that fuel only gets into the oil on old engines that are braking (hope thats the correct one) down or have having some seriouse issues.

I asked a couple of people at work to have a sniff and it was 50 50. Got told to stop worrying they couldnt smell fuel and others said they could smell it.

Guess its going to have to go back to the garage tommorow.

Or am i just over reacting? as i am one of these people that tries to find fault with almost anything. SOrry about the long message :D

I though brakes did the braking on old cars?

Are you checking the oil after the engine has been stopped for atleast 10 mins?

How much warranty is left?

  Better than yours. C*nt.
One thing to bear in mind. Fuel = Oil. Vaguely. They don't smell as different as dogshit and roses.

Checked the engine well after 2 hours. Thanks for checking my spellings :p i THOUGHT i might spelt that wrong. The car is only 2 months old so loads of warranty.

Cheers for the advice guys. Think i will just be playing it safe as said and will just run it to the garage.

Cheers

What are they going to do at the garage? Thanks for bringing your car in you oil sniffing nutter?

Your oil is diluted with all sorts of fuel related crap over time. Is it in need of a change? Do you drive at low RPM's 99% of the time, wonder if this has an effect?

Don't you mean fort?

Gorms: "Oh hai there, I was sniffing my dipstick earlier and I noticed it smelt of fuel. Can you come out and sniff it and tell me if you think it smells okay?"

Renault Monkey: "I've never sniffed a dipstick before, so I wouldn't be able to tell you I'm afraid!?!"

Gorms: "Fcuking useless Renault cnuts!!!!"

  172 cup
it would be a concern to myself as i have seen engines that have needed to be replaced due to fuel leaking into the oil effectively over filling the engine with fluids, remember too much oil is just as bad as not enough. keep an eye on it and if the level gets higher without you putting oil in i'd get it looked at

See the only problem is the fact the car is NEW so i dont know if it would have done it over such a short period of time. As for the low RPM its a RS Cup what do you think? :D

THis was one of my concerns. I was told to keep an eye on the oil level over the running in period and was told i would need to keep topping up the oil but up untill now it has not needed any and it justs seems a little random at times when checking it. The car has now covered 3k and i have added no oil.
