Do you feel the need to "prove" yourself in your Renaultsport?

  Rally bus
Last week I turned out of a T junction, within 100 metres I was behind a Clio 200, 30mph limit, quite busy, in a line of cars all doing 30... he suddenly accelerates, pulls out and passes two cars doing around 50, cutting up one of them as he forces his way back in to avoid hitting an oncoming car.

This morning, same junction, same car, I'm following at a safe distance.... gets to next junction and he's on the wrong side of the road overtaking someone with a car coming the other way again.. this time the car coming the other way had to brake to let him in.

As he passed the T junction he seemed to be driving normally on both occasions. Yet as soon as he spotted a similar car he decides to drive like an arse. Why? Is there some inherent need to prove how much faster his car is with the extra 3bhp? Or was he trying to escape so I didn't point and laugh at how much uglier his car was than mine?

He'll probably have one of them "I was only doing 23mph and I lost the back end and wrote my car off" threads on here soon. Hopefully he won't injure anyone else in the process...

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Nope. I like low speed burble. That and if I'm in traffic, I'm usually in Der Deutsche.

Don't think he would of been proving himself just probably excited in his new car at the chance of abit sport, he just obviously couldn't wait for a suitable road. If the next time ya see him on a good road just make sure ya own him. Or as most 197/200 owners do stop and chat about mpg and how much better built they are over 1*2's ; p.

I dont think I have to "prove" anything, although it can be fun when someone looks at and thinks "its only a Clio" and the car out performs theirs :)

+1

Business men normally in BMW's or Audi's that cost 2-3 times the price of my car.

Nope. I don't feel the need at all, just let the idiots with the small engines go on by....

Depends on the mood I am in and also if I think the other person can drive if its a kiddie in a Saxo I just leave em to it

;)

Pffft, you'd have a surprise with my little beast then! Bought a standard VTR as my first car and have never had the heart to sell it. Two and a half years on and many thousands later it's got a 16v 106 GTi engine, throttle bodies, cams etc....! Circa 190bhp and just 800kg's, makes a mockery of my R26! Standard exterior too, adds to the surprise factor when it beats everything off the line.

With regards to the original question though, I noticed that a lot with other Renaultsport Clio's when I had my Trophy. Not really had much like that since I bought the R26, probably because they wouldn't stand a chance against it!

Try never to get involved with other on the road, i will admit i did when i was a tad younger.

My 182 has a easy life.

i actually dont drive fast in my 182 compared to my corsa 1.4 sri i had to thrash to within an inch of its life to get anyway, but i like to go slow and eye up the women lol

I've seen your R26 at Huddersfield uni I think, looks awesome if it's yours!

We need to get a little meet going, there's quite a few people who go to the uni/live nearby! :)

Well your Saxo is hardly the same as a bodykitted 1.1 any pics of it?

You gonna flame me for this but I went up against a 225 Trophy with 260bhp and lb/ft and it didn't leave me standing at all as the owner who's a member on here will testify.

However the Meggy's are far easier to modify and if I could justify getting another RS it would be an R26 or R26R

:)

its glasgow city center stopping at red lights every 20 feet

and its due a service plus the centre section on exhaust has collapsed internally which wont be helping mpg but gettin ktec supersports delieverd and fitted tomorrow

Yeah I'll make a thread or something tomorrow, proper little weapon! :)

My R26 is running 260bhp too, seems a lot faster than my old Clio Trophy did throughout the whole rev range. Doubt there'd be much in it to 60, but it feels much, much stronger to 100 and obviously the torque in gear. Is your Trophy standard engine wise? Nowhere near as chuckable though. :dapprove:

It's a decent upgrade though. Like you said, power gains are relatively cheap which is a nice change after the Clio. Paul at RS Tuning has an R26.R running 280bhp I think, I bet that shifts! Just couldn't justify an 80 mile round trip to Uni everyday in one though unfortunately, otherwise I'd think of getting an R cos they do look amazing.

People with the same or very similar car to you that choose to race you, are absolute f**king w*****s. Fact.

I got drawn into battle a few times with my 172 if im honest but only when the conditions permitted (dry/dual carriage way/slip roads etc)

But i always felt i was being antagonised into it by Mondeo/BMW's never really had a tussle with any other evenly matched hot hatches

lol i hoon it everywhere, overtake everything, i'm not trying to prove anything it's just the cars so fun, only about %20 of my driving is what most people consider normal, i don't drive dangerously though.

Occasionally if someone's trying it, its funny to push it and to see a shocked face. A couple of good encounters, get a thumbs up, but a couple where the others' are trying to do the "proving" and so drive like utter t***s.

Remember one 323i swerving in and out of lanes, undertaking and overtaking on a DC (F&F style) and a latest MR2 overtaking on double white lines over a hill! Just because I was little bit quicker. If I see that, I just back off and keep my distance. Don't want to get involved in that kind of thing.

Same thing happened to me had a young audi driver with girls in the car decide to push me into oncoming traffic as i was overtaking on a dual carrige way. Lucky i was in a low gear so had plenty of poke to get past in time

I wouldnt of mind doing that but his audi had loads of dents in it so dont think he would care if he knocked my car a couple of times i cared more about my car only had it 3days, so just decided to leave him and carry on with him falling into the distance.

Had an nice E46 M3 try to cut into me as we were stuck in traffic on a roundabout. There were 2 lanes on the roundabout going into 1 on the exit. We are all taking it in turns to filter into one lane and then this tw@t decides to push in!!!!! He ended up behind me but I don't know what he wanted to prove. I have driven an M3 and they are much faster than my 197.

Anyway to answer your question, only if the conditions permit. Doing that during rush hour etc = chav in my book.
