My 225 TT

Had a bit of an issue with this TT about a month ago, was covered in General Chat and I got a lot of advice and support from alot of you which I really appreciated. So thought it was about time to get some pictures of it banged up.

I had a couple of 172's over the 12 months before buying the TT, both were vertually faultless and thoroughly enjoyed owning them. Managed to sell them both on at a price that covered buying them in the first place and everything I spent.

The TT is a 1999 225, a little quicker than the clio upto 60 then quite abit faster above that. I had more fun driving the clio's though and will be back in one at some point.

That Monaco looked a peach! I'd probably have that over the TT.

Yeh I loved that car, just couldn't really turn down what I got offered for it and it was getting on the wrong side of 90k.

That leather is blue. It's nice other than that mate.

I think alot of early silver TT's had a blue interior. I can't see how any one would pick it over black so maybe they didn't have the option.

No it's not remapped, standard apart from 18 inch RS4's and a Blueflame exhaust.

It depends what you want in regards to if it is worth it, if you want something fun and economical I think the 1*2's are hard to beat. Driving to work and back (12miles) I'm getting about 25mpg and that's taking it steady, I didn't have to even think about how I was driving the clio's and they'd still be in the 30's. Give the TT some stick and you'd be down to 15/20 I think.

TTs are thirsty, thats one majorpoint i dislike about mine,
not as fun to drive as a 172, but so much more refined.

totally different cars, depends what ur after

Yeh much more refined. They are good to drive and dare I say it, would even keep up with a 1*2 when things got a bit twisty! You just need deeper pockets with a TT.

Have you done anything else to yours Laura, looked really good last time I saw it, did the wheels have a change of colour?

They'll monster a 1*2 in the right hands lol, grip FTW ;)

Fuel wise, might be worth checking your on VAG-COM, we get 29mpg out of Sarahs 225 with her ragging it around the lanes to work, then dawdling through town. Does 32mpg on the mway ...

I suppsose it's the stopping and starting on my daily commute that gets the mpg down. On a motorway run it will do mid 30's.

Have you compared a lap time in a 225 TT to say a 172 cup Dave? I really didn't think there wouldn be a great deal in it.

25mpg sounds like its broken, I used to kill minie everywhere and it got 27mpg and that was with it stuck on its cold map. Once i replaced the temp sensor it'd get 29mpg.

I don't think it's broken, just had major service. Has been plugged into VAG diagnostics and the only fault that cam back was reported to an airbag, reset it and hasn't come back.

25mpg commuting on 30s/40s seems to be about average from what I've read on TT-forum. Were you going off the on board read out or did you work it out properly?

Love it mate, I think they are growning on people because they are becoming more affordable.

Yeh they do seem to have come down a fair bit whilst the mk2 has been out.

There has been a few on here mate that went clio > TT

Yeh I've noticed that. I suppose if you are looking to move on from a 172 and have a couple of grand on top of what you'd get for your clio a TT isn't a bad move.

Worked out properly. Mine was fine on Vag com too. It only got noticed by chance at an MOT. Its emissions were all over the place. They traced it down (after 6 hours) it an intermittant coolant temp sensor. The only symtom is that sometimes the water temp needle will drop to the bottom and then pop back up. Keep an eye out for it.

Cheers Waitey, I'll keep an eye out for that. It's going in for it's MOT in the morning actually, fingers crossed!

Remap'd I think you'd get between 260-270 I think.

Is it going to Audi for an MOT?

The will give you one free one and cover any work the car needs to pass to the cost of £300.

The work i mentioned above was £278 and it was written off.

mot protection mans you pay £49.99 for the MOT its self other than having it free and you get upto £750 worth of repairs should it fail next years MOT

I thought you got a free one and then for £50 they covered any work needed for it to pass, and the way I read it, it was only on a cars first MOT? I've just booked it in a place next to where I work, but if Audi will do it and guarantee any work that needs doing I'd be much better off going there.

I just got an email (this was a year ago) saying if i registered on thier site i'd get a free MOT and be covered for up to £300 of work as long as my Audi was over 5 years old.

As long as it was over 5 years? I'll look into that then, cheers.

what are the back seats like in them? can you fit a baby seat in the back of a tt? or an adult? and no i'm not taking the piss regarding the baby seat lol

Im 5ft 10 and to be honest the back seats are useless in terms of carrying people. My girlfriend who's a size 6/8 and 5ft 5 sat in the back a couple of weeks ago and wasn't happy at all. No leg room and she had to sit with her head at an angle because of the back window, there was a thud when I went over a speed bump!

I did the same move from my 172 cup.

Here's mine:

Remapped to claimed 270bhp, lightweight oem wheels, quattro sport rear diffuser (must have cheap mod!), and will sit lower than yours as it's on the facelift suspension.

I managed to get a free mot as mine has a full audi service history btw.

I have the black leather :)

They're nice cars, completely different animal to the clio. I like both for different reasons. If I had both, and wanted to have some fun on a b road blast, I'd take my old cup in the photo.

270 will be a bit optimistic. Most make 250-260 on good rollers with oem exhaust.

You need downpipes and sport cats to get past 265bhp.

Hence the 'claimed' lol. The torque figures are more realistic at around 270lb/ft, fairly impressive.

There is a nack to sitting in the back tbh, sit on one side, then put your legs diagonally across behind the other front seat ...

I guess you could fit a baby seat in it. Nice & safe as well :)
