172 Driveshaft/CV joint question.

Car  coiled 'berg
Hi all,

Help please,

i) The 172 is going in for a o/s driveshaft on saturday, can you just change this alone or do you need to change anything else i.e. CV joint??

ii) Stealers quoted £235 inc vat for the shaft, does that sound right?? sounds expensive!

cheers.

Yeah, price blew me away last week too. The shaft will be complete with CV (CV cannot be ordered separately) , so you'll be a goodun the next 1,5 years ;)

(RS reputation; eating+ spitting out driveshafts)

Its best to get genuine driveshafts and that orice is what I was quoted for a driveshaft on its own! Although it is only a half hour job to do!

You can get them on an exchange basis from eurocarparts or GSF

Unfortunatly GSF don't do them for the 172's. We can however get them reconditioned for a pretty good price.

Failing that just buy a service exhcange unit from Renault under their Motrio brand.

I tried a few motor factors and they all came back with "dealer only!" so looks like its £235! wow, factors said, if i have a 'normal' clio it would be around £80 !

i bought one only 2 months ago for my ph1 from s j cooks(renault) in bristol. was £144 inc vat. plus £10 back on the exchange.

so £133. i did fit it myself so saved abit there.

eurocarparts couldnt get one. local factors said no.
there is someone on the web that will recondition for about £80 plus £20 p+p.

renault had to get me one from france. so took a couple of days.

got the number if you wanna ring them.
pm me if needed

I want a new driveshaft.

Citren (near us lot in Poringland) want £55 fitted. I think il go for that.

i had my cv boot changed for £30 but was only a small tare. how would a drivshaft go?

Joints become worn and that normally causes the common knocking noise of when a new shaft is needed. The joint is covered by the cv boot you had replaced for £30, and there are two joints to a shaft. Inner being nearest to the gearbox and outer being nearest to the wheel.

Damn that's cheap!

I need to get in contact with them me thinks.

Danny what was the name of that alignment place in bury again?? Any ideas of cost?

Fred mentioned earlier in the thread about vibrations causing the airbags to deploy. I wonder if there is another reason aswell as this?

ive no idea, but thats what it says, its the reason i always put people off em and go for the new ones

however, the parts system STILL gives out part numbers and prices for recon shafts for sports, if it isnt recommended it shouldnt even give you the option, ive know about this for at least 12 months and id say our parts prog has been updated at least 10 times since then, yet if you put a 172/182 in it still lets you choose recon shafts

i was just at the dealer (again) a couple of hours ago, no more exchange on them.

For some (non RS) models they do still have the exchange service..

f**k i got quoted 371 Euros EX vat for drivers-side for me cup (so Laingo that must give you an idea) How many pounds would that be ?

it wasnt a service exchange. i got a brand new one from renault which was shipped in from france.

almost every place selling driveshafts work on and exchange service.

im guessing i need to change mine?car genrally vibrates when my foot is on the clutch or decelarating. pulls to the right mainly steering wheel and gearstick shake quite badly. or is that something else?
