How to protect steeringwheel???

How do you protect the steering wheel from the dreaded melting??

Mine is in really good condition for its age, but as mine is going to be mostly out in the sun, I want to know how others have protected it (if they have).

Or is it a case of waiting for it to melt, then getting hold of another... and another... and another over the many years lol

I have just bought myself a new steering wheel and I've got my self 1 of them covers from halfords and I put it on wen i'm not in car wen it's in the sun

I use a huddie at the min. I'm 99% convinced it is the sun that causes the issue as they ALWAYS melt on the RH side, which is closest to the side window
