dunno power to weight it be well above a scooby
but scoobys run 4wd lsd and a box designed for the power so be a close shoot out i would imagine maybe wrong though

They're Scooby killers with 260bhp let alone 340! As long as the Scoob hasn't had too much money spent on it of course.

I have 281bhp ATF and have never struggled to see off a Scooby yet. Thing is though, there are Scoobies / Evo's out there that have had 50k+ spent on them so it depends what you come up against. I'm certain Stevie's would rape anything straight out of the Subaru factory and probably most that have had a few quid spent on tuning them.

Still... vids needed to prove it :)

I'll be honest it hasn't really been built to set 1/4 miles at the pod and I doubt it will see much track work as I prefer bike trackdays. What it is though is a very flexible set up that allows surprisingly swift progress on the road.

I must also stress that it isn't finished yet either, I do have the options to increase the boost further but both Paul and myself agree that it would be at the expesnse of drivability so we intend to leave it at a bar of boost (for the moment) what I am doing though is having it set up so that it adjusts the boost levels depending on which gear I'm in. Which could open up a whole new ball game. On the lowest boost setting (actuator spring 7psi) it pulled 260bhp obviously this will be the lowest power setting I can run, as such I'm looking to run this setting in 1st with a little bit more in 2nd, at a bar in 3rd but theres nothing stopping us raising the boost levels a little further for 4th and 5th obviously we'll have to make sure we don't drift out of the turbos effeiciency range but it could show a little more at the top end. So if people can wait untill it's fully set up I'll grab a few speedo vids and post them up :)

people underestimate how much you can put down through the front wheels, 'scoobies' as you call them are flattered by their 60 times obviously due to 4wd and once rolling a mapped meg 225 will give a hawkeye sti a good close race.
A mate of mine has a 400bhp civic in the bp touring car colours, he ran a 12.0 quater at york and his 0-60 has been timed at 4.2, so low 0-60 times can be done with fwd

You'd need 500bhp in an imprezza to keep with this trophy once rolling imo, the extra weight and transmision losses of the imprezza's is a real downside to them and imo they are such an over rated car.

Whilst i admire the engineering & skill that has gone into this, i personally dont see the point, mind you im not one for straight line glory.

340bhp in a fwd clio reknowned for its lithe handling prowess. No thanks.

As I seem to keep arguing with the supercharged boys. Weight is only an issue at lower speeds. Much above say 100mph and its just about power and Aerodynamics. At big speed... weight is just irrelevant.

but from say 10-120mph I TOTALLY agree with you!

I appreciate what your saying Dave, and as someone who enjoys nothing more than taking an under powered 600cc road bike out in the fast group on track days and humbling the "all the gear no idea" brigade, you sound like someone after my own heart.

However as I've previously mentioned the responsiveness on part throttle is considerably better now, and if anything the driver experience has been enhanced because it now requires even smaller throttle adjustments for the same results. I feel that Trophy's fall into a similar category as the likes of imprezas and evos as they really flatter the driver with them being so well balanced and having such a good chassis. As a fellow Trophy owner I'm sure you can appreciate how good the chassis is and that it can easily handle more power, and don't forget I'm only getting full power when my foot's to the floor, the rest of the time it's all quite civilised.

I'm tempted to ask Paul to do a part throttle power run just to show how sensible and smooth it really is.

Anyway once again thanks for all the support, not one comment about "just buy something faster" which is a nice refreshing change :)

Tbh, i see exactly what you're saying as well, the Trophy does handle incredibly well, a good 230bhp would be ideal for me .... but as you say, a car is only as quick as your right foot, so if the part throttle response is still there, & its not all lag & boost (so as to upset the balance), then thats a very happy medium.

Really impressive stuff, always enjoy seeing people using their brains and thinking outside the 'bolt-on kit' box!

It really seems that you have found a workable solution to something that has previously put me off turbo charging my clio, until seeing this thread I've had my heart set on going down the supercharger route.

Quick bit of info on the boost control and why it's so smooth/driveable.

EC1 has closed loop boost control and uses a 16 X 16 target boost map based on RPM vs TPS. As such you can extremely accurately calibrate a boost curve and therefore delivered torque. EC1 samples the MAP sensor at a very high frequency and uses this information to control turbo speed via bleeding pressure off the wastegate actuator via a PWM driven boost control solenoid. This is exactly the same system as a modern production car boost control system and aids driveability massively over a conventional open loop boost control system that has no ability to adjust for RPM/TPS. As can be seen by the graphs in the first post the boost curve is very controlled!

We also have a code release coming up that has full ALS, Turbo LCS and wheel speed dependant boost in the box so I'm sure this will make it onto the Turbo Trophy ;)
