300bhp+ Clio Owners

Any problems at all?

I know a few are running turbo conversions with this kind of power. Worried about gearbox and clutch TBH and anything else it could effect?

Cheers
Danny

That kind of boost would equal big torque, which would crumble the gearbox. Presuming uprated clutch and forged internals, I guess the rest would be ok. Obviously you're going to increase general wear and tear on the entire drivetrain though. Just buy an awesome car that already has 300bhp? ;)

But that would be too slow? ;)

I'd imagine you'd have to be as sympathetic as possible to the box to get any longevity from it.

My awesome car which had 240bhp was quicker than a 400bhp of the car your talking about ;) :rasp:

I may just stay low boost as before then as it was quick enough as it was!

It done 10k on 240bhp absolutely fine. It came to an end where there was no heatshield where there should of been!

I thought it was a good attempt ;) I just wanted opinions of the tiny amount of other people that have achieved it ;)

  clio 172 cup turbo'd
ive turbo'd my 172 cup with forged internals and 4paddle clutch running 0.8bar boost now but need bigger turbine housing on turbo to go thurther even tho k-tec promised me 300bhp easy it only managed 260bhp with 260 lbft done the ring and croft like that and no major probs ...but really want an gripper diff, does anyone know the ratio of the standard diff on the 172 ?

Danny I honestly only know of 2 cars running a genuine 300 bhp+, mine and Pauls (RStuning), I've only had a chance to cover a couple of thousand miles since I finished it but it has been faultless so far. The way Paul mapped it means the power delivery is very smooth and alot more linear than when it was at 267bhp. Which I honestly believe gives the gearbox an easier time.

I'm only running 1 bar of boost which is nothing compared to some turbo cars out there.

Didn't someone put a DCi box in there RS as it was stronger in some way?

Yes mate I run a dci box on mine, I don't think its any stronger but it does have more suitable ratios for a torquey engine

Two things to add:
If you want a gearbox to handle a bit more power that it's built for put in a gearbox oil cooler with a little pump - it can help.
The original post asked about clutches. The standard clutch hasnt a chance at that power/torque. After market clutch is essential.
