I hope those photos came free with the track day. Really shocking images (from a photography point of view).

Car is looking great! Hopefully will get a chance to see you race next season some time.

  172 Race Car
First post of the new year.

Car is still snowed in at Burpspeed HQ and not a lot happening currently

Goals for 2011:

Finish every race/better reliability

altho we only had 1 DNF we were plagued by problems, coolant leak, throttle cable, fan falling off, engine mount and not forgetting the f**kING ALTERNATORS

Qualify in top 10 every round

I think we can, we only missed out twice. Now we know what were doing

Finish on lead lap every race

Slightly harder but do-able

A mid-low 54 sec lap at Mallory

Bit of a personal goal really. The car was great at Mallory and it seams to suit the Clios well (in our series) Honda boys were doing low 53's. Not sure how we will get on but the car was easy to do low 55's with and fastest lap was 54.9

........and I suppose some glassware would be nice

Provisional calendar

Brands Sun 8th May
Donington Sat 28th May
Anglesey Sat 6th Aug
Mallory Sun 28th Aug
Silverstone Sat 17th Sept
Oulton Sat 1st Oct
Snetterton Sat 22nd Oct

Plus some trackdays, test days, car shows and other events

I don't see those goals as unachievable. The car was a new build and you were learning its niggles and durability. Can't wait to see next years reports.
Pictures from Brands looks amazing. Your car seriously makes me want to build a clio racecar, but i have another project so cannot :(
Just dont ramp the pressure up too much, my best results always come with a relaxed bit of driving.

Those are the dates we are currently planning to do.

There is a round at Cadwelll in the summer that we cant do due to Tonys work comintments (same day as British GP) and one at the start of April on the new Snetterton 300 circuit. That is rumored to be an expensive entry fee as the circuit hire fees are much more than the 200 (old circuit) layout. Its also a long way to travel so might give that a miss.

Then of course there is the race at Spa in June but the total trip costs are way out of our budget atm. Maybe one day

Nice one Jay, so you'll be up north this year? Or are you not doing all the dates again ?

Would not miss Anglesey for all the money in China, and would like to have a fair crack at Oulton with a car that handles a bit better than last time, instead of a,"I want to go backwards and kill you" car.

^ This, Lol

Might see if we can do the full day test before at Anglesey?

Nice to have some goals to go at guys no doubt. Will try and get to another round this year for support if i can, was a good day at oulton last time apart from the car trying to kill Tony obviously. Out of interest can you remember what kind of times you guys were doing at oulton as my mate is thinking of running his ex production btcc 306 in your series this year. Might be at a few more rounds if thats the case spannering in between racing myself.

Russ,it was a 2.03 which was amazing considering that trouble we had that day.One of the Integra's did a 1.55.On road legal tyres!!! ffs.

Cheers for that Tony, think we've had this conversation before but that Integra is rediculous, 1.55 on treads, jesus! For referance, i think the fastest i did in the Leon was a 1.57 on slicks, the sister car to my mates 306 did a 1.56 on slicks so should maybe a second or two slower on R888's or similar. Clio Cups were doing 1.58's on slicks too so at least i have a marker of where i need to be for this season in the eurosaloons.

What fixing points did you use for the legstraps for your 6-point harness? If you have a pitcture Id be happy

Got to remember that it had a race winning BTCC driver at the wheel

Drilled 2 holes in the floor and fitted eyelets with FIA plates

Yikees :S sounds like major issues. Bad setup or suspension problems?

We had the car setup quite nicely at Anglesey on Hankook tyres. It had a little understeer but very nice to drive. The weekend there finished off the tyres and when we went to buy another set they were no longer available. We went for Dunlop Direzza instead as they were quite popular in the series and they gave the car a MASSIVE oversteer balance. It was lethal in quali, that and the coolant leak. The geometry was also all to ****. It did take us quite some time to get the car setup on the Dunlops throughout the season tho, even made some big change to spring rate at the last round. Still not tested it properly to figure out whats what. Hopefully we will get the time (and some dry days) before our season starts

I remember getting out of the car after my stint at Oulton and being ruined. The most exhausted ive ever been after driving it.

It's frightening how much work needs to be done for tyre changes. Everyone just assumes it's a case of replace, and they will work. Sounds like the dunlops have a bit more bite to them on the original setup you had. Hope you manage to find a nice balance if you're looking at staying with them.

The Hankooks were very very soft, left out in the sun you could pick bits out of them. The trade off was understeer,so this was worked on in practice and got a very good balance by the end of the day.(what we also didn't know, was the Anglesey is a very understeery circuit anyway). So when we changed to Dunlops, the whole world turned around on us(as well as the car),and turned to very drastic desperate measures to counter act this problem. How we ever managed to pluck up the courage to even go out and race the thing at Oulton I don't know.

Staying with Dunlops atm yes.
