Another Suspension/Coilover thread.

Over the last 2 MOT's my car has been through, one rear drivers side shock was and advisory (June 2010) and both front shocks were advisory's (June 2011) for slight misting of oil.

What im thinking is, over the next few month's to a year my car is going to need new suspension, and im stuck as to what to do.

If im replacing 3 of the suspension units am i better off replacing all 4 at the same time rather than have the passenger side rear eventually fail anyway? If so do i stay down the route of standard suspension, or do i replace them with some coilovers? because...

I would like to have a slight drop in stance, not a huge amount, i just think it looks better. In this case am i better off just sticking some lower springs in when i replace the suspension or will that trash the ride, handling and grip ect. Or am i better off going with coilover's to achieve the drop and better handling? but will this make the ride harsh? or is it all down to set up?

I have had a quick look around the forum and the net, and seen V-Maxx for sale fully fitted for £460, but seen some Gaz GHA366 for sale £526 and ive had Gaz on my old mk1 valver and they seemed pretty good.

So what do people think?

if you want drop and comfy get new dampers and lowering springs, some decent ones like eibach or something

if you want properly low, adjustable to get it perfect plus better handling then get coilovers. they will be stiffer and slightly harsher, you can get adjustable damping but there usually expensive. personally i prefer my car a bit stiffer and harsher, standard is way to bouncy etc

all in all, your probably looking at £300-400 ish for dampers and lowering springs. and then as above for coilovers, bare in mind second hand ones aswell

oh and if your changing 3 then just do them all mate, no point doing 3 as you said. plus springs come in sets and dampers will come in sets aswell so would probably be harder

cheers i think you might have helped me make my mind up.

also ive done some more reading up and people seem to have alot of hate for GAZ which is a shame because i didn't have any problems on my old valver, and on a mk2 fiesta. Im also not sure about v-maxx as they seem to have a few bad point's as well. I think i might look into the spring/standard shock option, as ive heard some good things about eibach's also it seems less of a minefield.

And i guess if im not happy, keep the standard springs in the shed and swap them back if im not keen.

yeah gaz have a bit of a bed rep now days, i have APs on mine and i cant complain, bought them second hand aswell.

but if you want a comfier ride then definatly go for the dampers and springs

no prob's about the thread hijack lol and yes it does, but i think i will be sticking with standard shock's with eibach spring's, they seem to be favoured by most people.

i just don't know how much of a drop i want? this web page talks of a 25mm drop which seems reasonable, but other pages on ebay talk of a 45mm drop which i think might be a bit excessive

We try and keep our listings a little more accurate hence why we say 25mm for the RS models. Its the same part. At the same time we are cheaper for the Eibach Sportline for Clio 182 (just getting a link in for those lovely search engines

I´d firstly raise the rear to get rid of the "my boot is carrying 5 dead looters"-look.

Raise the front a little and raise the rear like mr.pink said nose down stance ftw.
