I can understand a total newbie making this mistake....

But seriously? You have been a member of this site since 2006 and yet you STILL make the NUMBER 1 Clio error?

not like you had no warning was it! I learnt this on the FIRST day I logged on here how vitally important it is to have the belts done properly.

hope you find a way of getting back into a Clio.

this is as far as i can go on my own, going to wait for the lad to come and remove the cambelt, rocker cover so we can see the extent of the damage.. its clear the inlet valves have dropped.

That's a valve seat. I wouldn't even bother with taking the head off, there will be nothing worth using left

I can't work out if this guy is just trolling tbh. He had a thread before it was done talking about taking it to a dealer. Everyone gave advice which I assume is why you'd post on a forum, and alas here you go again.

The trouble is any monkey with a spanner set and some ambition can setup a business and call themself a "Specialist". Some have cracked AutoData processes where as others have eBayed versions of Dialogys... You don't question it or their ability but they don't have any real experience or understanding of the vehicles and can do some real damage by 'playing' at your expense! This is why it's essential you do your homework or ask questions before letting anyone loose on your motor. Yes this place does seem "Specialist" orientated rather than DIY but there's a good reason for that whihc can be found with ease via the search function. You wouldn't go to PC World pick the badest looking machine and hand over a wedge of cash for it without seeing if it can use the internet or view p**n would you?

I've had many un-easy customers in the past worried about my ability's after already forking out for a job to be done once and as I've got nothing to hide gladly explain things and answer questions (I even put things in writting as I fully document everything from servicing to diagnostic reports). Recently, one customer paid a local garage £580 to do his '182 timing belt which is not only is top whack but they did wrong (twice). He said "It went in quick and came out slow and thirsty"... sure enough the timing was wrong which I checked and demonstrated to him on the spot which cost him £20 (The price to replace the end caps and a beer my way). Eventually it cost him another £380 to replace the belt run and re-time it (along with replacing specific parts that the other garage didn't change like the siezed aux belt tensioner) which is money he could've saved IF he'd come to me in the first place.

Believe it or not, people like myself, Fred and Danny aren't here to extract your cash. Yes we charge for our time but we also have a genuine passion for supporting these vehicles which is more than you can say about the main dealer networks and other independents and doing a job right/keeping the customer happy is our number one goal.

Same goes for Fred too. Both had no issues with me standing there watching and asking questions!

the post was made after my mate fitted the dephaser!.

so i just been told my head is proper goosed.. 2hrs labour and a photo.. this has just saved me recovery and labour costs at a specialist,..

yes i know my mate has destroyed my car,. this will be sorted out

am sure he remembers how to remove the cambelt, its not going to do any harm.. he is a good mate.. he probably feels proper rotton and wants to help, but thanks for your time

If he was a good mate and wanted to help he'd pay to get your car fixed by someone who can actually fix it.

I won't be surprised if he starts saying his cambelt job had nothing to do with the engine failure soon, "just a coincidence mate", he already lied to you about why the timing was out (he blamed his tools - classic!)

Anyway, do what you want. Hope you have as much good luck as you deserve...!

Listen to everyone on here, no one wants you to get fucked over, hence they advise you to get youre car sorted properly by someone who knows what theyre doing............ Jesus fella, you could have saved yourself a mint, but you ignored everyone. Now youve fucked it, and everyones trying to help you out...... Do you not think its time to follow the advice from years of knowledge/experience and save yourself any more excessive expense?????

Well said. It's been going that way for a while. People buy them (because they are cheap for a performance car), ruin them by "modifying" but neglecting good maintenance, then trying to sell them. It's a downward spiral. It's also why the model's reputation suffers.
That's why it is proving difficult to find a good one (read the various posts about people trying to find one). It shouldn't be, Renault sold a lot of them and they are a wonderful car straight out of the box.

I knew from the moment I read the " i'm getting my mate who's a vauxhall specialist to do it" thread that this would happen.

Not all of us are high rollers so it's only natural to try and save money here and there but this isn't one of those areas.

My advice, like many others would be to take it to a specialist and have them assess the damage, get a repair bill and then go from there.

Sound like your pistons have munched most of you exhaust valves from slipping a few teeth. That's why you're getting no compression and the engine's spinning so fast when you crank it over.

You currently have a very rare £10,000 Clio-shaped air pump. Maybe try eBay?

maybe somebody should make a post on why "specialist" should be used, using my car as an example..

think a family member is going to lend me some money to try and source a motor from cliospares.. hopefuly my 172 motor, it made ok power and has had professional cambelt ect.. less than 1000 miles ago.
