MBP RAM question.

I have a MBP with the following specs:

Its a summer 2009 model with:

Processor- 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory- 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

I wanna put some more memory (RAM) in it but I aint an Apple specialist and want to ask the pros on here whats what.

I understand my MBP has to slots for RAM. Both with 1GB in it at present. I wanna double it to 4GB (I think 4GB is the max RAM my MBP can take?) for better performance when I upgrade to OSX Lion.

My question is; wheres the best place to buy it from? and am I correct in thinking 4GB is the most I can go?

Go to the crucial website, it will tell you.

Then buy it on ebuyer.
 
On the "how much should I expect to pay" front, you're safe with ebuyer. They're a reputable and competitive company for enthusiasts, not a rip-off-the-clueless-public highstreet store like PC World etc.

Sure there are other online specialists and we each have our preffered place to buy components from but at the very most you might save £5 (once you account for the big variation in delivery rates) by shopping around online.



Does the mobo/BIOS of an 07 MBP support anything higher than 1066MHz? Since the cost of RAM is all to do with yields, supply and demand OP may find a more common speed (such as 1333MHz) is actually another £5 cheaper.

Because it is cheaper. Saying that though my friend just upgraded his MBP to 8GB and ordered it monday through crucial, arrived tuesday morning.

Stupid question but does everyone fit the RAM themselves? I want to upgrade but I've never opened my MBP
 
^ It's easier than breathing, no really!

Just look at a guide online then do it yourself. All you need is a micro screwdriver to undo the screws on the cover.

I looked at the apple guide and it does look as easy as walking.

Anyone tried the Crucial System scanner software? Is it accurate?
 
Sorry to sound like a complete TW@ but..

Is the upgrade really worth it? What are the main advantages?
 
I'm getting it as to run OSX Lion you need 2Gb of RAM. I still want the MBP to be fast so just wanna add a couple extra RAM.

Also just discovered that my MBP is one of the early 2009 models as opposed to the newer ones released in the summer of 2009 (Think the reason I got it so cheap) so the max RAM it can take is 4GB.
 
No worries. Should give you a bit more life from an older device.
