182 aftermarket decibel reading

Ok, so this bank holiday was the first time I've given the Clio a proper drive. We did 876 miles in 4 days and to be honest the only thing that was on the negative side was the noisy exhaust. I believe I have a Milltek exhaust and decat, so on the way home the missus downloaded a decibel reading app (for what it's worth) to see just how loud it was inside the car. It averaged mid to high 80s and on full acceleration it peaked at 99-100db, health and safety recommend that anything over approx 86 requires ear muffs/ear defenders :D

Was wondering if anyone has done the same, it is a tad loud so now have to decide what to do. Could I put another box in it or just sack it off and go back to an original exhaust. I work 11 miles from home so with short trips it didn't seem too bad but we did 300 miles in a day and the constant noise was a little too much (showing my age!)

I think its 98db for use on track...exhausts always sound lounder when the car is hot. I dont think that the decat helps with sound...so you could try it with a cat to see if there's any change.

It's more the sustained level of noise for long periods of time driving the car, the link below shows what happens between 90-95dB

I knew the exhaust was loud but wasn't expecting it to be hitting mid 90s

i open my window about an inch and it seems to get a little quieter.

guess it gives the sound somewhere to go other than my ears lol
