Parade Laps, a reminder.

Right, thanks to all that signed up for the parade lap yesterday, it was good to show some respect to Lee.

However, its not all good news. Some people (Who know who they are) was getting a bit over enthusiastic and overtaking.
If this sort of thing continues we wont be invited to parade at future shows, FCS or otherwise.

Parade laps are not free track time. Please keep this in mind.

Non moan thread is here.

Sadly we missed getting signed on in time to get out for this as we were late arriving, nice to see so many people (except one) showing their respects to a dead forum member though, was quite touching and although I didnt know the lad, im sure it would have meant a lot to him.

Did The ds3 driver explain why he went so quickly, was quite happy cruising about but when the speed rose then it was natural to also go faster, was a bit odd but I admit I joined in with it all.

No, lol i did notice the pace picked up (which is fine) but overtaking isn't.

I passed a mk1 only because he waved me passed, probably to be with the other mk1 behind me. I didn't overtake though as such. So not sure who you are on about :s

On a good note though it was good to pay tribute as I attended the black mountain meet but wasn't in the 182 then.

The white MK1 was slow and waving people passed, so again acceptable.

Like i said im not naming names.

I must have missed the overtaking, I just kept pace, was very aware of the other cars on track in the bunch.

Ooooo. My bad.

Not you mate...I had a chat with person who did it to me (and denied it in front of 2 witnesses). Spirited is fine...its the overtaking on a parade lap (essentially a memorial) not passing which got my back up and showed as total disrespect to what we did as a club from those who knew him to those who didnt by at least one person. You did nowt wrong...you passed, not performes an overtake as if it was free track time...plus, you csme to Brecon Beacons with us lot as a memorial...so you have nothing to concern yourself about mate.

Cheers don. Just wanted to cover my arse in case people thought my passing of the mk1 was classed as the overtake etc.

Re: French Car Show Parade Lap vid

Video deleted, not posted to cause upset, offence etc. Can't be doing with internet wars. I apologise if my actions offended anybody but I sure wasn't the first and certainly wasn't the root cause.

Joke that parade lap was!! as said it was meant to be in memory off lee but turned into a trackday:nono:

I was on the pit wall and seen a fair bit overtaking. Shame as its the "club" that gets a bad name not the individual involved.

I saw you on the side Martin. :)
I hope that it doesn't prevent us from having parade laps in the future.

So do i.

But this really is the last time i'm going to mention it. If it happens again, i will personally make sure the individual(s) responsible never get on a CS stand again and we wont have another parade lap for a fair few years either.

Its put a downer on it for me really. But hey ho, the majority behaved impeccably so well done guys.

You say it was only 1 in the OP but it was more than 1. You should use the photos and the videos to single the people out who ruined it for the rest in fairness.

I was unaware of another person, i have edited.

This is part of the problem with parade laps in general and why I cant normally see the point in them (although can when its just a show of mourning like this)

Ive always maintained that its a strange thing to go to a racetrack just to drive slowly, a bit like going to a whorehouse just for a cuddle.

Easy to see how some people get confused and put their foot down.

I think the root of the problem was that the DS3 didn't stick to 50mph as well, this meant others took the piss!

Slowing down for corners was inevitable when people were doing way more than 50mph, to get a blast up the track.

It started off fine, first lap I was quite happily cruising along when suddenly everyone started giving it some. Then gaps started be created and your surrounded by lots of Clio going fast lol! If it continued as the first lap did, then it would of been fine. Bit like the year we did the memorial lap for 'Iridium', nice and slow and it was actually quite moving to be a part of.

Similar thing happened last year round rockingham i seem to remember? I wasn't there this year, so unaware of what went on.

Easy thing to do would be to ask those with cruise control, which I'm sure most cars will have, to set it 40/50mph, and ask those without to stick to a similar speed.
That way you'll avoid everyone backing up and slowing to a crawl.

Gutted but it's kind of inevitable...

People see one person slow at a corner to then hoon it up a straight or thru a corner section then another tries it and before long everyone is lining up to have a go - you can't cruise the lap then because you're stuck waiting behind three cars and getting out to have a polite word is dangerous.

My personal opinion, ban them from club events and shows. You can make everyone aware of the rules before they go out next time but it will still fall on deaf ears because they can't handle the excitement of driving on a race track.

I think what I might do in future is conduct a briefing at a certain time before future lap's outlining the do's and don'ts.

Like i said, it was largely well behaved. Just a couple of idiots (who still don't think they've done anything wrong by the looks of things) spoiling the whole thing.

Well if I was one of them, and quite possibly was although wasnt spoken to at the time then I apologise. Never done a parade lap before so was just going with the flow. Out of interest how much did it raise for charity?

No mate, you are ok.

On its own, not a huge amount at all;

Couple of guys made a donation when they signed the form, which was lovely. But most people didn't. (they may have already donated via the just giving page, which is fine)

Ah that's a shame, I did get that impression when I went along and signed on, at the very last minute, and the bag looked empty, chucked a note in and hoped that the rest was elsewhere. Hope the just giving page is overflowing!

There's a massive difference between driving a bit quicker than you should and over-taking like a dick.

We know who overtook and if we have another parade lap at any point then maybe their registration form will just get lost somewhere.

Ideally they won't come at all.

I didnt know about any parade lap this year as I have not been involved with CS as much, I get royally pissed off when people do s**t stuff and ruin a parade lap.
Its like they are saying 'yea I know the kids dead but f**k him i have power....'

Tom - I dont know if your allowed to name and shame people on a forum as it could be classed as victimization from some one of the Admin or Moderators position.

I however, will gladly post photo's of the muppets that did it had I been near the track at the time.

This has been really bugging me this morning. Been thinking back to the memorial for dan (iridium) from a few years back and that went so well, yes we all slowed a bit before the photographer but for me at least that's resulted in a photo of me on the parade lap that is frames with a footer that anyone who see's it knows that is in memory of dan, and it touches me every time I look at it. I would hate to have had that memory tarnished by an idiot like the one this thread is about.

Genuinely think they should be banned from future parade laps.

A bit shocked to hear this really. You should take the hard line on this really and remind people at the next one that any overtaking on a parade lap (i hope there is isn't another parade lap of this kind again!) will result in said driver being ejected from the event. That is standard practice and fully understood by everyone at all the events i've been to. I've never seen or been overtaken on a parade lap ever!!

Glad to hear it all went well bar that.

It is the only thing i like about competitive events over track days is that any sillyness is instantly dealt with. More idiots are coming to tracks and like on our roads more and more rules have to be made to stop them hurting themselves and others. These rules just make it harder and more annoying for the people that would manage to drive safely without any rules to just have a ood fun day! If you know someone that likes to bend or even brake the rules tell them it's just not on. The sooner people take the hardline and make these people realise that no-one is impressed the better. It's not a lot of fun having no mates and showing off on your own.

It was a shame, I was with Don at the time he was overtaken. It would have been a bad image for the club if it was a CS parade lap but the fact it was a memorial for someone that died fighting for our country makes it a lot worse, the overtaking was pretty dangerous too when other people were driving slow or not used to track and the last thing I think Lee would have wanted is people having accidents/injuries in memory of him.

Any chance of closing this now, hopefully the others feel as bad as I do. I apologise to all CS Admin, mods etc for being stupid.
