New hard bolts required?



Do you need to get new cylinder head bolts when refitting the head?

Ktec web site says yes.

Renault manual says maybe - "The bolts can be re-used if the length under the head does not exceed 117.7 mm (otherwise change all the
bolts)."

Title should read head bolts BTW ;)

I've never had a head off one, however it sounds a bit like the crank pulley bolt when changing the belts, I've always just replaced it as it only costs around £7 and you cant measure the bugger until you've removed it anyway.

On a rover k series however I would always replace the head bolts regardless, but I think it was on a vauxhall XE engine you only had to replace the washers on the head bolts.

Vauxhall XE is a stretch bolt engine and they MUST be replaced.
Unless running aftermarket ARP stud and nut or similar.

If you are talking 70K and 10 year old original ones then I wouldnt even consider it, if you have only recently fitted them for some reason then measure them and take your chances if you like.
