car insurance (specifically for me)

hi guys im just after a bit of advice really...

i know there have been plenty of threads for car insurance but none answered for me specifically...

basically im 20 (21 in january) passed in december 2009 so coming up to my third year driving, got full no claims, no offences etc so completely clean licence but am struggling to get cheap insurance for my clio despite not touching the engine etc...

im declaring all mods (including interior) and getting either quotes of £3000 upwards or no quote :/ its a 1.2 ffs! :L

anyone got the same or be able to give good advice?...

cheapest quote iv had is around 1800 but thats standard and then when i declare the mods it goes up considerabley :S

additional info: im a full time student going on to my final year of biochemistry and my re-newal is 19th september in which time i need to have changed from aviva as i have had no end of problems... :(

Get rid of the mods, they aren't worth that amount of increase in premium. Sell them on and use the money towards your insurance or a better car in a year or two.

your first issue that bumps your price is your a student , your second is ANY mods , you also don't say where you are studying and where the car is declared as being kept ?

unfortunately i suspect you can't change any of that .

Why/what are you declaring as interior mods ?! Bucket seats I can understand but I don't think you've got them ?!

Return the car to almost standard and get a 'normal' policy with someone like Sky thru CS.

im at huddersfield university and driveway, on fenton road, HD1 3RY and final year this coming year :/

because its not the standard extreme interior and dont want to be p***ing about with insurance companies using that to get out of paying? and no chance of returning to standard :L would cost more money...

Return to standard..

no

they are only visual mods which is why i dont understand the leap? and im finishing the car over the next 2 months tops then am saving from then on for a different car but want to keep it modified

fml :/ maybe the area helps... and il have 3 years in december :( no engine changes or mods whatsoever... purely visual mods and if i were to go on the basis like giraffe seemed to point out along with what a few people have said (only declare aftermarket not renault mods) it might make it a bit cheaper but dont want to be one of the people that dont declare mods and dont get paid out etc

and i work for a pharmacy part time but that doesnt seem to affect my quotes much...

You've put a different non-RS interior in and you've informed your insurance company and you're wondering why they've taken every opportunity to charge you more money ?!

LOLz.

But seriously, you're not going to get your insurance voided if your interior is a different shade of grey to what it left the factory with.

The insurance won't know what trim level it left the factory with. Stripping it, cage and buckets, yes, inform them for goodness sake.

I've put an led bulb in my interior light and replaced the HU. Do you think I bothered telling my mod-friendly insurer ?

Sounds like the only way to get it cheaper is to remove the mods, but since you're refusing to do that, you'll have to suck it up and pay the premium. Or sell the car.

Admiral group offer a free mod policy, you don't have to pay for mods but they won't pay out for the mods if you crash.

Also, stick 2 older women on the policy :)

Also, don't say they're 'mods' say they're genuine Renault parts from a different Clio

sounds like a plan to me :D i shall get a quote from admiral, but i have no older women that drive in my family... apart from my dad :L

Wait, so you've not had a quote from Admiral/Elephant yet? Do it NOW if so. Elephant have always been cheapest for me since I started driving.

Also, give adding your Dad as an additional driver a try, it may well bring it down a bit.

Admital/elephant/(can't remember the last one) have always been cheapest for me. Aah no good lol :(

admiral unable to quote... need more info on the car apparantly :/

trying elephant now

apparantly they need more info on the car aswell.. :/ wtf?

can put screenshots up if it would help?

Let me guess, you've told them it's lowered more than 40mm or whatever the level they have is? Say it's less than that, they'll probably be able to quote you online then.

I'd risk it and did back when I had my 1.2 on coilies, they're hardly likely to get the measuring tape out next to a standard motor if you do crash.

i wouldnt tbh but im trying it to get a quote atm then expect it to be a little more expensive when i speak to them on the phone...

il let you know the quote in a sec though

£4680.86 srsly wtf? thats with my dad on for a 10 month policy?!?!? (19 years no claims protected)

£6224.32 without for a 12 month policy :O

elephant want £5539 without my dad on and 4680.86 with him on but again there for a 10 month policy...

i seriously dont understand why a few visual mods equate to an extra 3 grand on top of your qoute for the standard car...

f**k knows why they hate you, I payed about £1k for a modified 1.2 at 18 with 3 points, granted this was about 3 years ago now and prices have risen but not by £3.5k!

Take your dad off.

What rating is your postcode?

I can insure a 182 for £983 at 19 with 2years ncb :s

will do lol and not sure tbh its HD1 3RY

im 20 lol been driving since december 2009 but get 3 years no claims in december so should be cheap :/ when i first got the car 3 years back they wanted 2 grand, 3 years later they still want 2 grand (standard) wtf?

according to a site its D* which is pretty bad... but thats all HD1 apparantly :/ though according to a site with a 'calculator' its medium risk :S

So Doncaster=Baghdad?

I think the admiral group group lowering as either >5cm or <5cm I had coilovers on my last car and took a guess at less than 5cm and it cost me an extra £34 alongside 1*2 bumpers lol!
