A Race Day With BURPSPEED.COM - short film

Back in May when Tony & Jay raced in the CSCC Tin Tops series at Brands Hatch I tagged along, camcorder and tripod in hand, and spent the entire day being a nuisance with it. Combining my resulting footage with some of theirs (thanks Jay ), I've made this video diary following the BURPSPEED.COM crew throughout the day.

I found it fascinating being up close and personal with the team, seeing the highs, lows, (at times) boredom, camaraderie, and general all round hard work from everyone involved. It's amazing to see how far they've come in such a short period of time since BURPSPEED.COM was conceived.

Long may it continue

Great vid. Beast of a clio and nice recovery! Laying eggs on that corner?!

What was in the proton? Wasn't too slow either! I drove a std one of those years ago and it was gash!

Two things amazed me in that video. The first was how much Nick had his hands in his pockets 'helping' and secondly, Nick with his hands out of his pockets actually helping! ;)

Great little video that Mark.

Thanks all, glad it's getting across how they day felt.

Spent a huge amount of time editing it all to keep it moving while hopefully keeping the viewer engaged for the full film.

Has that worked? Or is anyone skipping bits to get to the action?

Great video, it was more informative and gives a good insight into what the racing day consists of - I had no idea how stuff like this was run tbf.

Tony, my mum says hi.

Nice work Mark.

Can I offer a little bit of critique to the editing though? Whenever there's a straight cut, there seems to be a frame that's missing and for the smallest amount of time the screen goes black. I emphasised smallest as it's barely noticeable! What were you using to edit?

Are you doing any more footage Mark?

I'll bring my GoPro next time if you want to use that. Could stick it to some part of the car for some arty shots, or anywhere else you want really.

Really enjoyed that, tank slapper sh*t me up a bit I thought the car was getting binned but it was well recovered.

Video moved along well, bits where you're setting up the car, having lunch and standing around waiting were the only slow bits,
but I think they're needed as i'd imagine there is alot of standing around and waiting untill it's time to go on track.

Oh and well done on the race result lads, bloody good job all round. :approve:

Picture of your Mum please.

Well done Mark, shows it's not all about the racing.

That was intentional and very much done on purpose...one single black frame inserted between every cut. Why? Gives me a period to fade the audio as levels from shot to shot were so varied, and also mimics the natural way we look at things...blinking when changing where you look.

Not tried it before...you're the only one to comment so far so I think on reflection it works. Whilst it does seem a little odd at first viewing, I found I very quickly failed to even notice it.

I don't have this camera any more, sold it to fund my new GoPro so will need get another proper camera before I try again. Extra angles would help massively...but if it were to go in car would have to be properly tethered etc. Would be good to get footage facing back at the drivers.

Good video well worth the wait....

planning on doing more races?!

Not for a while...all in the editing of this has cost me at least 50 hours if not more...been back and forth with Jay for weeks considering what shots work, what should be cut etc. learned a huge amount throughout the whole process so when I attempt another, my footage is going to be much more targeted and usable.
