My 197 now on ITBs

  Evo
£5600, but the catcam 402s and the nitrous system were already fitted.

Obviously alot of the cost was in the extras such as the ARP rod bolts, oil cooler, oil sensors, dash, carbon backplate etc.

50ish bhp gains is very good. It will be interesting to see where and for how long the gains are.

Normally on a well setup wizards of nos kit you get pretty much the full gain for at least 50% of the useable rev range.

I wouldnt be surprised if he sees as much as 60-70lbft of torque extra at 3-4Krpm

Is there an off the shelf itb conversion on offer?

You can purchase the Throttle Bodies from AT direct, but apparently it took alot of setting up and headaches to achieve this finish.

  Evo
Wow. That is actually a staggering amount of money!!!! Did you at no point consider just buying a quicker car?

I coulda just bought a 250 i suppose, but it wouldnt be nowhere near as fun as this is to drive now, let alone unique. Its not just about power figures its about how much you enjoy a car.

Agreed, the cost only matters if you need the money, people spend that much on a holiday and its all gone, at least you have something that will last.
Not a wise investment by any means, but your money and hence your choice :)

Completely understand where you are coming from, i seriously considered getting a Quaife, ITB's & ECU for the Trophy, but for the money that was going to cost, the T would have stood me at 8 grand, and still wouldnt have been particularly quick lol.

As such, i just bought something with ITB's as standard, much easier, & a darn sight quicker.

When you sell it in 3 years time for 5 grand though, drop me a pm ;)

Thanks for the comments people :)

I'm sure you'll all get a chance to see it over the show season, planning on a little more work on the car before then so hopefully it'll look that little better. Race dash is fully Mot compliant yes and it's one way of getting around the new MIL lamps rule. It's very road friendly and the shift lights are very handy.

Nice car, I've got the same dash for my mk1 clio project :)

also have the very same dash ready for my ph1 172, so annoying the project is taking so long, i had the dash over a year back....

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
um...no we can't....lol
i am running a mark 1 dash top and that is it.... anything else would weight too much

Its the dash top that we'll both be mounting it in though?

And it weighs only a couple of kg for the whole setup in mine minus the heater etc:

Wow £5600 is a shed load of money! I totally understand why you did it, with clios is difficult to do something that hasn't been done before!

Is the airfilter right behind the radiator on your set up?

  Evo
It's tighter than a nun behind the radiator but on the 197 it's set right over to the n/s of the vehicle so only one trumpet is directly behind the rad. :)

The front of the car cannot be cut up to accomodate like the mk2s as it's all structural so must be left put, once again restricting trumpet length.

you got a power run with it on nitrous? have thought about it a few times but i know far to little about it, looks really good btw

Hi Ben, we're really pleased with your car so chuffed to hear you're enjoying it and have had those shift lights flashing! :) Quite honestly one of, if not the, most awesome 197/200 road cars about anywhere! We need to have a play with the nitrous soon so drop me a line when you're free and I'll get the dyno warmed up.

All - this is exactly the same kit we developed for the X85 and C85 race/rally cars. No corners cut or things toned down it's as per the race cars. NJR have been running an X85 with this kit since 2009 and have racked up some pretty serious finishes against tough competition as a result, here it is on our dyno:

For those interested in a similar kit on their road car please drop me an e-mail matt@tour-de-force.co.uk and I'll discuss the options with you. Rough guide to power etc. is:

Standard F4R830, stock cams = 205bhp
Standad F4R830, mild CATcams = 215bhp
Standard F4R830, aggresive CATcams, VVT delete, PAC valve springs = 225.5bhp.
Built F4R830, 13:1CR, aggresive cams etc. etc. = 248bhp

This kit is just reaching the limit of its flow at circa 250bhp! Oh and we will have an option for drive by wire control of the throttles later this year.

Thanks
Matt

Dont know how I missed it first time round, but seeing vickys nitrous install just made me go and take another look at your pictures, your nitrous install isnt correct either mate, the injectors are plumbed in backwards, you'll lose a lot of efficiency from the nitrous kit as a result and worse still will get a lean spot which could give a flash of det every time you activiate it, not good news for the pistons potentially.

The pipe lenths are far from ideal as well TBH, the solenoids could do with moving and the pipes re-routing, the current setup will exagerate the lean condition the wrongly plumbed injectors will cause.

You really need to get that swapped over and ideally the whole install looked over by a nitrous expert.

I will confirm the above with Trevor at WON. Thanks for the heads up.

No problem mate.

Who did the install out of interest? Cause if they are one of Trevor's suppliers he should probably give them a bit of training TBH, those are fairly fundamental errors to be making.

Blatant copy and paste from my reply to you on the nitrous forum, just in case it interests anyone here:

Where abouts are you from Ben_r1, if its anywhere near london I'd be happy to help you out FOC one evening, its only simple stuff even though it might sound complicated.

Basically on the injectors the red pipe should be nearer to the engine than the blue pipe.
This is so that the 900psi nitrous forces its way through the 50psi fuel on the way in, encouraging them to mix and because the outlets in the injector are designed with slightly different spray patterns for the nitrous and the fuel as well, again to aid mixing and dispersion.

All the pipes should be as short as possible, so that when the nitrous is activated its path to the engine is shorter as during the time it spends in the pipes it will "phase change" from a liquid (what you want) into a gas.
Also with the nitrous coming out a lot quicker than the fuel it will mean that the nitrous gets to your engine before the fuel does, this can lead to a very brief lean spot which can result in detonation briefly and overtime can cause damage, plus at the end of the nitrous activation the fuel then takes a while to stop coming in so you get a rich moment where it can cause a hiccup/hesitation

The reason its bad to have one fuel pipe go up and not the others, is that will mean when the distribution block atttempts to send the same amount of fuel to each cylinder, it may fail to do so properly because the paths to the 4 cylinders dont offer an equal amount of resistance.

Quick update: following the engine going bang in march it had nitrous removed, high comp forged pistons, cup racer con rod bearings and Catcams 403s with VVT delete and Cat vernier pulleys.

Just finished running in last week and was mapped for final setting at 230.9bhp & 188lb/ft. Now will be having 20mm longer trumpets fitted with TDFs one off custom slam panel to accommodate space and hoping for an extra 5 - 8bhp to bring it on par with the X85 running the same setup. :)

Very healthy figures those, especially the torque!

Maybe you could take it to the SRR day that is coming up and see if it makes the numbers somewhere independent too?

  Evo
I don't consider it finished until the longer trumpets are on lol. Very happy with the figures, with the VVT delete I thought it'd be dead below 5k but the power delivery is so smooth now it's a big improvement. The torque curve also holds high for a long time, will get graphs up in Jan.

Also out of all dynos I've ever used ( AmD, TDI, Redline Essex and Ktec ) TDF rollers always read the lowest results so I'm happy the results haven't been falsified :p

nice to hear its going strong.. you took your time running it in!! lmao, i was at TDF when you picked it up (and passed you on the A14 lol) damn good looking car for sure!!

Well it only comes out on sunny days and seeing with the year we've had thats why it took near 7 months to run in lol! Thats what keeps it looking 'damn good' ;)
