Renault Espace 2.2 DCi

Does anyone have any experience on these engines?

Friend of mine is looking at one but I've seen quite a few horror stories. Quite surprising when the DCi 80's etc are stupidly reliable.
Thanks

What year is it? I take it it's the latest shape?

When I worked in Sales for Renault in 2004-5, they all just had electrical issues, nothing I can recall from the engine ( except the 3.5 V6 ) but the lump itself was alright from record, Sat navs, Air con, Electric steering all went tits up though, parts are stupid money for them too.

There not great tbh man seen a far few end up needing engines , burnt out valves and some needing pistons and others big ends , rocker covers burst and then they blow the plugs out of the side of the engine , makes a real mess lol

Super s**t engine. Turbos, engines fail, gearbox on pre 2006 models, rocker covers blowing seals.

Renault do contribute towards new engines, rocker covers and turbos though, even when out of warranty.

Is this the same engine as they put in the Laguna? If so its a Nissan unit. I had one in a Laguna and it never caused and issues, infact it was quite a good engine I thought.

Just google Renault 2.2 dci fault and make yourself comfy.

When I worked there the service car park was full of the bloody things.

Yeah I had a look. We've got:

Oil everywhere
Turbo dead sub 60k
Bottom end failing
Injectors faults followed by more bottom end failure.

I did think it would be as people make it out on the interwebs but I thought I'd ask here first. You tend to get a better class of opinion on here.

The 2.0T petrol engine is pretty good tbh. Shame the rest of the car suffers with standard French reliability.

I'd look at an Alhambra 1.9tdi. Great cars.

There is no 2.2 dci Nissan engine in any Renault , the engine he's talking about is a g9t, u might be talking about the m9r 2.0 dci and its still not a Nissan engine it was a joint effort

I had an 03 plate 2.2 laguna derv which was meant to be 150bhp. I was always told it was a Nissan engine as I believe the Primera had the same unit but i'm no expert.

Regardless of what it was it was fine when I had it and never had a single issue.
