Couldn't agree more! One of the best looking hot hatches of it's time IMO.
Eccosse filter, pugsport and decat *chefs kiss*
I know it's a classic 'no true Scotsman' argument, but IMHO hot hatches have to be fun, practical, compact and affordable. Now this is a controversial opinion but do 6R4s, clio V6, Maxi Turbos, T16s and the VW Golf W12 belong in the Hot hatch Category?
Because now they are technically rear wheel drive mid engined cars?
I'd want to add in the requirement for four seats and 'fun', rather than just 'fast'.So the next question what is the recipe for a Hot Hatch.
For me it has to be.
Front engined
Front wheel drive
And cheap to the Everyman can own one.
As someone has said once they are entering the market new above 30k they are into a grey area.
I believe the last Megane Trophy R was nearer 40k maybe even beyond that once spec’d
We drove a 104GL over the Pyrenees for a family holiday in Spain in 1978. Really lusted after the 104ZS - one of my first brochures nicked from a showroom. I can't believe nobody has mentioned this or at least I haven't seen it:Granddaddy of all french hot hatches, I give you the Peugeot 104ZS, tiny terror from the 70s.
Sold in teaspoonfuls in the UK, mine even had electric windows.
And the splitter ending up being put on EVERY chavs car. This never got much love, despite everyone with a Mk4 platform car wanting parts from it.

Or trying to knock someone off their Motorbike with a chain or a leg kickI can still see myself in that Ferrari Testarossa convertible with the girls hair flying about in the wind - Outrun 1986.
If we're discussing road cars then surely the brief has to be a fast version of your mums shopping car, but for a hot hatch museum a room full of the extreme end of hatchback evolution into motorsprt has to be included imo.Now this is a controversial opinion but do 6R4s, clio V6, Maxi Turbos, T16s and the VW Golf W12 belong in the Hot hatch Category?

Yeah a section for race car versions of Hot Hatches. If we're discussing road cars then surely the brief has to be a fast version of your mums shopping car, but for a hot hatch museum a room full of the extreme end of hatchback evolution into motorsprt has to be included imo.
I suppose I should add one of these to the mix too.

Yeah they do make a nice noise!Still remember seeing a Pulsar absolutely crush a Boxter in a race, the noises that thing made were unreal. Circa 20 years ago and i still remember it clearly
Yeah they do make a nice noise!
The more I look at this the more I think it could be done. You wouldn’t necessarily need to buy a lot of cars.
