That is very likely to be the issue. The belts on 1*2's do not like to be take off and re-fitted.

I believe the 197 recaros are mounted to a vehicle specific frame that includes the height adjustment mechanism. The ones Steve fitted were new bare seats as they come from Recaro (no frame attached) and he mounted them to 1*2 recaro frames. To get the 197 seats onto 1*2 frames looks like a lot...
